Sell me on the Order of Hermes

I get it, wizards are cool. But they're also aristocratic assholes who think they're better than everyone because their 'will to power' nonsense is just a fancy way of saying that they can cast fireball because "fuck you that's how".

...That being said, I kind of like how morally grey they are, but I find creating a hermetic mage a really hard sell for some reason, so sell it to me.

3rd draft of my Umbral map! I've cleaned up a few mistakes from the previous draft, and tidied up the locations of a few places.

I've made sure to do a few things compared to the previous attempt:

  1. I've cleaned up the locations of a few of the Shard Realms, since four of them actually are located past the Far Horizon
  2. I've placed the Afterworlds in it's own category of 'place' since the Book of Worlds makes it "seem" like they are part of the High Umbra, but the method of travel used and the exact wording of the passage leave it a bit ambiguous.
  3. I've also gone ahead and added a few other minor places that are mostly just fun "hey, I know that place!" references, such as Doissitep and the COP.

I'm still debating whether or not to flesh out the Zones such as the Dreaming and the Digital Web, and other general bits of organizing to make it clear how one could get from one place to another. Problem is, a LOT of Umbral spaces tend to be interconnected, so I'd rather not have my map look like a methed-out spider web of connections.

As per my last two drafts, any feedback would be MORE than appreciated.

Earlier I uploaded the first draft of my attempt at mapping the Umbra. I've made some changes based on your feedback, how'd I do?

Still far from perfect (since I lack a way of mapping 4th or 5th dimensional space) but I think this is a noticeable improvement from the last attempt.

EDIT: I already noticed a few errors, like how Luna is on the wrong side of the Horizon, and how the Shade Realm of Prime hasn't actually been proven to exist. The version I'll post tomorrow will reflect these, and whatever other feedback I'm given

Tried my own hand at mapping the Umbra according to M20 and the Book of Worlds, how close am I?

While we all know that concepts such as 'up', 'down', 'near', and 'far' get a bit nebulous on the other side of the Gauntlet, I figured I would at least attempt to map it out on two-dimensional space. But, to be honest, I would probably need at least four or five dimensions to have it make perfect sense.

For people who start in the grassy plains, how do you handle the distance and resource problem?

As you all know, the Plains are the first starting option the game recommends for first-time players, plenty of space, not much hostile wildlife, forgiving geography.... but the tradeoff is the sheer amount of *distance* you have to cover to even make it to stage 2, not to mention the poor mining nodes and the geological obsticles between the plains and the other biomes, can make the plains feel a little constricting.

So, assuming you don't just pack up and leave for another corner of the map, how do you guys handle the plains?

As someone who is mostly familiar with 5th edition, I was curious as to the specifics of how the Council of Nine and their Chantries are organized. How orders are given, how justice is decided on and carried out, etc. I know of the broad strokes, but I was hoping someone could recommend books that get more into the details.
