Cormac McCarthy

Loving Clovis, particularly Top Hand. Haven't been taken by any song this way in a very long time.

Curious if there are any other fans of Cormac McCarthy who also love Charley? Particularly his Border Trilogy telling the stories of John Grady and Billy Parham and the changing pastoral world of the US/Mexico border leading up to and after the WW1 era. The Crossing might be my favorite book ever.

While waiting for buyback approval

I requested buyback in January, but haven't been approved yet. I quit my public service job in February and I put payments into deferral at that time but deferral is ended and now I guess I have to start making payments again. I guess I have no choice but to keep paying while I wait? I am now working a very low income job outside of the US, so I think at the very least I can recertify my income to lower my payments.

Thanks for any advice.

Please, Ed Dept, hurry up and take my money and release me from these bonds!

[Spoilers S3] I couldn't finish this show. Anybody else lose interest in season 3?

Loved and binged seasons 1 and 2. But my interest pretty much instantly deflated once there was an alt world the characters could travel between. Time travel was fun, but this is just so, so silly and now nothing matters.

I quit halfway through season 3 episode 5. Just couldn't care anymore. Turned it off and let my Netflix subscription expire.

How did people continue to find interest in this story after it shifted to a multiverse?

Edit to everyone saying it's because it was confusing: no, I was following closely and it was no more confusing than the first 2 seasons which I enjoyed. I was just bored. I pushed through 4 1/2 episodes of boredom because I had already sunk so much time and attention to it but just couldn't be arsed anymore.

The Films Leaving led me to watch Panahi's Taxi, which led to me seeking out other Iranian films and I added Taste of Cherry (1997 Kiarostami) to my Watchlist. My partner was looking at my Watchlist, decided she thought that looked interesting, and put it on.

Very thought-provoking and somewhat puzzling piece of film. I was mulling that over for a while and she went to bed and then I loaded up Stroszek (1977 Herzog), not really knowing a whole lot about it other than I've seen Aguirre, Woyzeck, and Grizzly Man in the past, so I'm not totally blindsided by Herzog.

Well then.

Both very impressive films, both will stick to my ribs for a long time (especially Stroszek --Bruno S. was on a different plane of consciousness). I can highly recommend both films for a day when you're in the mood to really tune in. Definitely don't think I'd recommend them as a double feature though, especially in this order.
