Hindu Nepali student joining UIU Dhaka for Data Science scholarship honest experiences from Hindu/minority students currently studying there?

Assalamu Alaikum / Namaskar everyone 🙏

I'm 18 years old Hindu student from Nepal. I've been officially nominated by Nepal's government (MoEST) for a full scholarship at United International University (UIU), Dhaka for BSc Data Science.

I've been researching a lot and I've received mixed signals ..some people say Bangladesh is unsafe for Hindus after 2024-2025 events, others say day-to-day life is completely normal especially in Dhaka.

I'm specifically looking for:

  1. Hindu/minority students currently at UIU or any Dhaka university:

How is your actual day to day experience as a non-Muslim student?

Have you personally faced any religious harassment or discrimination on campus or near UIU area?

Do you feel safe walking around Badda/Notunbazar/Bashundhara area daily?

  1. Data Science students at UIU specifically:

How is the actual classroom experience?

Are lectures in English or Bengali mixed?

How approachable are professors?

What does a typical week look like for a DS student?

  1. General Dhaka experience for foreign Hindu students:

How do you handle religious/cultural differences respectfully?

Any specific things a Hindu Nepali student should know before arriving?

Is there a Hindu temple or community near UIU area?

My situation honestly:

I'm coming alone, first time outside Nepal, no contacts in Dhaka yet. The scholarship is fully funded by Nepal government so financially it makes sense. But safety and student life quality are my genuine concerns before committing.

I'm not looking for political debates just real, honest, ground-level experiences from people who are actually living this or have lived this.

Dhonnobad / Dhanyabad 🙏

Nepali student coming to Dhaka for UIU Data Science scholarship honest advice needed from locals

Assalamu Alaikum Dhaka brothers and sisters 🙏

I'm Bibek, 18 years old from Nepal. I've been officially nominated by Nepal's government (MoEST) for a scholarship at United International University (UIU) for BSc Data Science. This will be my first time ever leaving Nepal.

I also wanna know about the quality of data science stream for undergraduate ones in UIU ..I want to know about REAL Dhaka life from actual locals:

  1. Is Notunbazar/Badda/Bashundhara area safe for a foreign student living alone?

  2. Realistically how much does a student need monthly for food, transport and basic living in that area?

  3. As a Nepali who speaks Hindi and some English will I survive daily life easily? Any language barrier problems?

  4. What's the one thing you wish someone told you about Dhaka before experiencing it yourself?

  5. Any UIU students or alumni here? Honest review please m. not promotional.

I'm genuinely nervous but excited. Never been abroad. Coming alone. Just want to be prepared and not make stupid mistakes in month 1.

Dhonnobad in advance 🙏

Got officially nominated by Nepal govt (MoEST) for full scholarship at UIU Dhaka for BSc Data Science what should I know before going? First time leaving Nepal

Namaste everyone. Nepali student here, 2nd semester TU Kirtipur. Today I got officially nominated by Nepal's Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MoEST) through Singha Durbar for a government scholarship at United International University (UIU), Dhaka, Bangladesh for BSc in Data Science. The nomination letter is signed and official.

I have never left Nepal in my life. This is my first time going abroad.

I need honest advice from people who have actually done this:

About the process:

What happens after MoEST nomination — step by step?

How long does passport take if I apply urgent?

NOC process — how many days realistically?

Bangladesh student visa from Kathmandu — how long, any problems?

About Dhaka life:

Is Dhaka safe for a Nepali student living alone?

How much monthly budget do I realistically need outside scholarship?

Which area near UIU is safe and affordable for housing?

How is the food — can Nepali students adjust easily?

About UIU specifically:

Any current UIU students here? How is the academic pressure?

How is the hostel situation for international students?

Any Nepali students already at UIU?

What to bring from Nepal:

What do you wish you had brought that you couldn't get in Dhaka?

What did you bring that was useless?

Any Nepal-specific things I should stock up on?

Biggest regrets / advice:

What do you wish someone had told you before you left Nepal for the first time?

What mistakes did you make in the first month?

I want to go fully prepared and not regret anything later. Any advice — big or small — is appreciated. Please be honest, not just encouraging.

Comments I especially want:

Nepali students currently in Bangladesh

Anyone who went through MoEST scholarship process

UIU current or former students

Anyone who moved abroad alone for the first time

Dhanyabad 🙏

Nepali student offered full government scholarship at UIU Dhaka for BSc Data Science should I accept? Need urgent advice

I'm a Nepali student currently in 2nd sem data science in Nepal... I just got nominated today by Nepal's Ministry of Education (MoEST) through Singha Durbar for a full government scholarship at United International University (UIU), Dhaka, Bangladesh for BSc in Data Science.

The scholarship covers admission fee and monthly tuition. I have never been outside Nepal in my life:

What I know so far:

UIU is ranked 3rd among private universities in Bangladesh (QS 1201-1400 globally)

They launched Bangladesh's first ever BSc Data Science program

There was a major student protest in April 2025 where the VC and 11 department heads resigned, but the university appears to have stabilized and is running normally in 2026

The program is relatively new so alumni network is not established yet

My concerns:

Is UIU's Data Science program actually worth it?

Is Dhaka safe and manageable for a first-time abroad Nepali student?

Will this degree be valued if I want to work in Nepal, India, or internationally after graduating?

Is leaving college mid-way a bad decision?

Anyone with UIU experience, Bangladeshi university knowledge, or Data Science career advice please help. I need to decide within hours...

Is anyone from there , let's get connected!
