Join us in Carson City tomorrow at 9am in response to the recent ICE murders for a remembrance of the lives taken.

They sent fundraising texts exploiting the work of organizers who had nothing to do with them. The event they referenced was not a No Kings protest. It was the Good Trouble Lives On action organized by BIPOC-led voting rights groups, alongside separate anti-ICE actions led by immigrant rights organizations and local grassroots organizers. 50501 supported those efforts, but we are not fundraising off of them.

Not only that but they have also attempted to portray themselves as part of the No Kings coalition. While they point to being listed as a partner, 50501 does not align itself with organizations that openly identify as Zionist. Their co-founder, Shayna Jaskolka, is also affiliated with A New Union, an organization whose platform explicitly states, “We are proud Zionists.” 50501 does NOT align itself with Zionism.

To many organizers in 50501, the idea that our movement would align itself with an organization that openly embraces Zionism is fundamentally incompatible with our values. The tactics used by the Israeli government against Palestinians are the same tactics many of us see reflected in ICE’s treatment of immigrant communities here. To suggest that 50501 would partner with or fundraise alongside a proudly Zionist organization or organizer is abhorrent.

Grassroots movements are built on trust. When organizations misrepresent who organized an event or use another movement’s name to raise money, it forces organizers to waste precious time correcting the record instead of organizing actions, supporting local communities, and growing the movement. That’s time we can never get back.

Support the local organizers doing the work. Support the communities leading these actions. Verify where your donations are going.
