I'm in the mood for some old movies, 1940-1980ish. What are some forgotten gems?

I would like to watch some older movies for a change of pace. I know the big classics like Citizen Kane, Wizard of Oz, 2001, etc. What are some good old films people don't mention as much? Big, epic films or small fims with a lot of heart and anything in between. What is an oldie you really love?

I like most genres with a few exceptions. I don't like:

War/military movies

Romance

Slasher/mindless horror

Raunchy teen comedies

I don't mind if it has some of the above as part of the story as long as it's not the sole focus.

I am a sci-fi buff so I have seen most of the classics and lots of obscure stuff but surprise me with a hidden gem or something overlooked and due for a rewatch.

Hit me with some of your favorites. Bonus if you can say a few words about what you love about it. Thanks!

What is your favorite warp spreader?

I have used strips of paper and ribbon and they work ok but I always wonder if there is something better. Or if I will get better results if I just take the time and use yarn? I do small projects on a rigid heddle loom but feel free to discuss any set-up and any helpful warp-spreading tips you want to share.
