Coral from Finding Nemo - Coral dies while trying to protect her eggs from a barracuda, with Nemo being the only one left after the attack. This event would serve as a catalyst for Marlin being overprotective of Nemo for the beginning of the film.

The Lion King - Mufasa was left to get trampled to death by a stampede of wildebeest as Scar planned. This proves to be traumatizing for Simba as he watched him die in front of him and found his corpse laying on the dirt while Scar manages to gaslight him into thinking Mufasa's death was his fault.
