How I fixed my doc martens loafers heel slip issue to get a secure fit

I recently got my self a new pair of doc martens, but this time, it wasn’t boots but loafers.

The issue with loafers is that you don’t have laces to tighten the fit and this seems to be a well documented flaw which I’ve searched around for - which is the infamous loose heel.

I have wide feet so the forefoot area is great, but the heel area was loose and I’d say the heel had a 5mm gap causing my heel to rub pretty badly (and lots of blood).

What I did was buy a pair of insoles that are 7mm thick and a pair of cushioned heel grips that give me a nice secure fit with no heel slippage.

There is a little bit of pressure on my left foot due to the insole, but the leather will eventually stretch out with wear.

I hope this can help someone now or in the future who has this problem!

First: Our first Marathon special AMA. Last Sunday we have witnessed something historic. Sabastian Sawe and Yomif Kejelcha broke the marathon world record wearing the adidas Adizero Pro Evo 3. Yes, a world record. And now we have the man who helped make it happen.

Next up: Patrick Nava – General Manager for adidas Running – joins us for a London Marathon special AMA. Patrick drives innovation, performance, and running culture at adidas. He was one of the leading voices behind the record-breaking Adizero Pro Evo 3. This is your chance to ask how you design a shoe that shatters world records.

When: Thursday, 30th April | 5:00-6:00 PM CET

Global conversions below:

Global Timings:

  • BST (UK): 4:00-5:00 PM
  • CET (Central Europe): 5:00-6:00 PM
  • ET (US Eastern): 11:00 AM-12:00 PM
  • CT (US Central): 10:00-11:00 AM
  • PT (US West Coast): 8:00-9:00 AM
  • AEST (Australia): 1:00-2:00 AM (1st May)

Who:

  • Patrick Nava (General Manager for adidas Running)
  • You (The runners who watched that record and thought, "I need to know everything about that shoe")

Focus: The Adizero Pro Evo 3 – the shoe that just redefined what's possible over 42.2km. Patrick will share how adidas pushed materials, weight, and energy return to the absolute limit.

Discussion Themes:

  • The design story behind the Adizero Pro Evo 3.
  • Balancing weight, cushioning, and energy return.
  • How the Adizero Pro Evo 3 complements the adidas lineup.
  • The design process at adidas, from concept to final product.

A Polite Reminder:

  • Stay constructive: Critique the product, not the person.
  • Avoid tariffs/politics: Patrick's expertise is running performance, not import taxes.
  • Zero tolerance: Hate speech or trolling = permanent ban.

Prepare Now (and bring your excitement):

  1. Upvote like you're chasing a world record. Let's make this our biggest AMA yet.
  2. Draft your questions below, what do you want to know about the shoe that just changed the sport?(adidas will create a new post for the AMA).
  3. Tag every running geek you know. This is a London Marathon special. You won't get this special event often, so share this with everyone!
