Why did quadripedal life evolve so much earlier and more wide spread then bipideal life?

Ik bipedal forms are better at long distance and energy conservation but I also know predation came super early in evolution so it's not like a chase down predators did not have a niche. Is it because the skills to make chase down hunting truly special require larger brains like group hunts and tool use. I am just curious. I am also aware of animals like birds and their ancestors that are/were bipedal but the vast majority of animals are quadripeads

I wish that you could play as the "uncivilized tribes" or have more ways to interact with the great powers as a nation that irl was colonized

I think it would be so cool to start off in 1836 as one of the tribes and try and centralize or trade resources for guns or something like that and try and establish a proper kingdom or Republic or something. Or if there was a way to play multiple colonizing powers in your area off each other and gain guns or technology without being under their control. Persia famously did this and before the US and UK were friends again after the revolution and with the UK and France so many tribes were able to stay independent and gain access to trade and resources. I just wish the African countries were more interesting to play as.
