Supergirl and Team Luthor #1 (1993)

See what happens when you kill Superman?

You end up with stuff like this. Lex Luthor is a clone of himself. Partly because the Kryptonite ring he was wearing gave him space cancer but also why be bald when you can have luscious locks of hair and a manly lumberjack beard.

He's also in love with Supergirl. But don't worry, this is not Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El. Instead it's a shape-shifting alien from a pocket universe called Matrix.

The 90s were wild but at least we got some cool Supergirl pin-ups out of it.

Captain America #317 (1986)

Remember when Captain America helped Hawkeye and Mockingbird fight against a group of villainous jugglers?

What do you mean no? I'm talking about the notorious gang known as the Death Throws (Oddball, Bombshell, Ringleader, Tenpin, and Knick-knack). They are trying to prevent Hawkeye and Mockingbird from testifying against their partner in crime Crossfire.

Also Steve's girlfriend Bernie leaves him to attend law school so a bummed out Steve moves back to Avengers Mansion.

This was written by Mark Gruenwald. Cover by Paul Neary & Jackson Guice. Interior pencils by Paul Neary and inked by Dennis Janke.

Adventures of Superman #463 (1990)

It was always fun when Mister Mxyzptlk showed up in a story. How would you trick him into saying his name backwards? It seems impossible.

Norm Breyfogle Batman/Detective covers

Share your favorites in the comments. I would be particularly interested in seeing Detective #587, 590 and 618-620.

Yes, I know this story wasn't well received. As you can see I bailed after issue #5.

That's why this post is just about the covers. I especially like the covers for issue #1 with all the reaction shots and the tarot cards on issue #4.

This is not the greatest comic in the world, no

This is just a tribute

(Apologies to Tenacious D and their song "Tribute")

Sometimes you miss out on collecting early runs of comics because you were too young or just not interested at the time. That's what reprints are for and they're a good way to read a storyline without breaking the bank.

Dick Sprang was still going strong at age 75.

This is the last issue of a three part story written by John Ostrander. All three covers represent a series of unauthorized comics published in Gotham City glorifying a deranged serial killer who believes he's Batman.

This cover really stood out to me because it appears in the middle of a run of covers by Breyfogle before and Michael Golden after. The art style used by Sprang was quite the contrast.

That's what Tim Drake said and I tend to agree. Someone to pull him back from the darkness.

Feel free to share your favorite Robin covers, panels or stories in the comments.

Written by Marv Wolfman, pencils by Ed Hannigan, inks by Mike DeCarlo and colors by Adrienne Roy.

Cover by Ed Hannigan and Klaus Janson.

Have you ever opened a comic that's been in your collection for decades and realized that either you never read it or you have severe memory issues?

This one blew my mind when I looked at it today.

The story is simple enough, cosmic travelers known as the Vanguard attempt to capture Superman forcing the Teen Titans to intervene. But the art team used this opportunity to go absolutely bonkers with the pages.

 “Anarky in Gotham City”

Detective Comics #608-609 (1989)

A fun two part story by Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle. What will Batman do when he finds himself up against a masked vigilante trying to clean up crime in Gotham City?

My favorite panel is the shocked reaction of Commissioner Gordon as he notices the Anarky tag on Batman's cape when he's leaving police headquarters.
