[Online][5e 2024][BST][Saturdays][21+] Experienced DM and Close-Knit Group Looking for 1 More Player for Out of the Abyss
Hi everyone,
Our established D&D group is looking for one motivated, roleplay-focused player to join us for an upcoming run of the Out of the Abyss campaign using the revised D&D 2024 ruleset.
Schedule & Logistics
- Time: Saturdays, 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM BST.
- Frequency: 3 weeks a month (we take one scheduled Saturday off each month).
- Platform: Roll20 for VTT, Discord for voice.
- Requirements: A good-quality microphone is required.
- Age Restriction: 21+ only. The average age of our group trends toward the higher 20s, and the campaign features mature themes.
About the Campaign & Setting
Out of the Abyss takes place in the Underdark—a massive, subterranean world beneath the surface. We are running this not as a pure horror game, but as a grand journey fraught with constant danger, environmental hazards, and high stakes. We are looking for a player who is genuinely motivated to get involved with this setting, engage with the challenges of navigating the deep dark, and lean heavily into the roleplay aspects of the game.
About the DM & My Style
I have been DMing for close to 5 years and have extensive experience running official modules, including Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, and a previous run of Out of the Abyss.
- "Yes, And..." Philosophy: I am very much a "yes, and" type of DM. I love heavy improvisation and am completely comfortable rolling with whatever wild ideas, creative strategies, or scenes my players bring to the table.
- Layered Encounters: I enjoy building deep, layered encounters. Whether it is a tense tactical combat or a complex political negotiation, I make sure situations have interesting mechanics, environments, and narrative stakes.
- Backstories Matter: One of my favourite parts of DMing is weaving player backstories directly into the official narrative. Your character will have personal goals, milestones, and enemies built right into the campaign's plot.
About the Group & What We're Looking For
You will be joining a tight-knit group of 4 players whom I have been DMing for the last 6 to 9 months. They are fantastic roleplayers who truly understand the "soft skills" of D&D. They love deep, in-character discussions, but they are also incredibly respectful of the spotlight—always looking for opportunities to pass the mic.
The Social Element: While the immediate priority is finding a great player for the D&D campaign, a major secondary goal for us is finding someone who wants to become friends (or at least very friendly) with the group at large. We all know how hard it is for adults to make genuine friends these days, and we'd love for the right person to integrate into our broader gaming and social circle over time.
How to Apply & Next Steps
If you're looking for a campaign where your choices matter, and a table that values both great roleplay and good company, please send me a message with:
- A bit about yourself, your age, and your D&D experience.
- What kind of character concepts or archetypes do you enjoy playing?
- Confirmation that you have a good mic and the Saturday BST slot works for you.
Process: I will be reviewing applications over the next few days and reaching out to successful applicants to arrange a brief voice interview on Discord so we can chat and make sure we're a good fit for each other.
We'd like to move quickly and run our Session 0 this weekend, if there is availability.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
