I assigned Tarot Archetypes to lyrics from pop culture.

I just finished a mini-research project associating archetypes from the major arcana to lyrics from pop culture songs. Studying in this way helped me understand the archetypes more deeply - plus it was fun!

The Fool (0): "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield
The rest is still unwritten.

The Magician (I): "Mastermind" by Taylor Swift
The dominoes cascaded in a line.

The High Priestess (II): "Frozen" by Madonna
You're frozen when your heart's not open.

The Empress (III) - reversed: "Labour" by Paris Paloma
All day, every day, therapist, mother, maid.

The Emperor (IV) - reversed: "Ballad of the Jester" by Renee Alexander
The jester plays with fire, spewing childish decrees / fanfare meant to hide petty insecurities.

What would you add/change? More importantly - what song would you assign to The Tower??

Pre-save interfaces seem to have a lot of user friction.

I am marketing my first release for September 4 and am learning a TON.

I just set up a pre-save landing page on feature FM and am using social media ads to funnel users to the pre-save landing page. In the last four days, I've had 1500 visits to the landing page, 61 service clicks and 15 pre-saves.

From what I'm reading online, this kind of drop-off is actually typical because the user is required to log into their streaming service when they access the pre-save link from their social media app, which causes a lot of people to click away.

I am grateful for the 15 pre-saves but frustrated about the 1485 users who clicked away. Does anyone have any idea for workarounds from this?

I'm ultimately wondering if the pre-save campaign is even worth my dollars if so many users drop off.

Thank you to this incredible community, I couldn't do any of this without you!!

It sounds political but it’s not.

I wrote this song about the healing process that happens during recovery from emotional abuse… but everyone keeps asking me if it’s about politics!

Has anyone else had their art totally misinterpreted based on current events?

PS I would really appreciate feedback re: vocals. I’ve had difficulty finding a vocal coach in my area who can meet with me consistently.

I’ve been posting the same reel to all platforms.

Do you all do this too? Or do you modify for Instagram vs TikTok vs YouTube vs Facebook?

And if you modify according to platform - how do you modify your content? Or do you create completely new content for each platform?

I don’t really scroll social media very much personally, so it feels like learning a foreign language. However, I want to build a solid campaign leading up to a single release in September.

Thank you!!!

[Here’s an example of something I posted to Instagram that did really well](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbMFd\_4KDAt/?igsh=MWIxaTJkcDR1cXFwYw==). In my ideal world, I could just take that same video and just modify it slightly (like change overlay text or something??) for each platform … thoughts?

Thank you!!!

It started with a difficult phone call... I documented the process from demo to master, build by build.

I recently finished tracking another song. I documented the entire build process and how the arrangement changed from the demo to the final master as I modified my vocals to capture a difficult emotion.

Thought some songwriters/producers here might find the workflow breakdown interesting again! (I posted something similar a couple weeks ago.)

If anyone is interested, here's the full process: https://www.reneealexander.music/fed-up-process

I wrote a song imagining the voice of the patriarchy as it falls.

As I imagined the voice of the patriarchy, I imagined pain, regret and loss. I wanted to convey a deep "what have I done?!?!" moment.

The truth is that everything the patriarchy stifles is exactly what brings so much color to this world.

The article shows how this song was created build by build. It was sooo cathartic to write!

My 12yo daughter stood up to a grown man today.

My daughter texted me today that a family friend told her "the patriarchy is actually good for women, women are just brainwashed." Then her called her "patriarchy's perfect little princess". (BARFFFFFFFF)

Me at age 12 - I would've shut down and run away.

Her at age 12 - "I am starting to see why it's so hard for you to find a girlfriend."

I don't usually encourage my kids to be sassy to adults, but today I was so proud. Each generation stronger than the last.

(She should not have been in this position in the first place though - that fucking pisses me off.)

I am seriously considering taking all of my music off Spotify/Apple and moving to Bandcamp exclusively.

Artists on Spotify are treated worse than public school teachers. I say that as a former public school employee (speech therapist) who left due to feeling overworked and undervalued.

I have worked my #$% off to make $3 on Spotify. I don't care about being famous, I don't care about making a ton of money, but the amount that Spotify reimburses is actually degrading.

Love the Bandcamp model! And just learned about Yogitunes.com! I'm seriously debating putting all of my eggs in those baskets.

Thoughts?!

I documented how my new track evolved across 7 distinct builds, from the demo to the final build.

I just finished tracking my upcoming song. I documented the entire 1-to-7 build process and how the arrangement changed from the original voice memo to the final master. Thought some songwriters here might find the workflow breakdown interesting.
