What does everyone think about this? I suspect there will be stiff opposition, especially with the memory of the copper smelter and the carnage inflicted on the people of Port Kembla by that poisonous monstrosity. It was a good day when they blew up the stack.
My current run is a faction of vegan stoner hippies The High Times Veganarchist Collective (eating meat prohibited, animal person-hood, high life, collectivists). The original colonists were Pastor, Dani, Fenix and Rosalina, the cat. We had a mission to protect someone from the Empire which gave us a new recruit, who was a Highmate called Shrike.
I had started to become annoyed at the blandness of the run so far, the only interesting event was a pack of tame ice wolves entering my area to join the colony. Vegans having to feed dangerous meat eating animals was a bit of a challenge, eventually I worked out I could butcher animals that the wolves killed themselves for meat and turn it into kibble. They were happily breeding and eating wild-life, doing wolfy things. I was keeping them tame enough not to eat my colonists so life was good. Eventually I might be able to train them to fight. Nice.
A couple of refugees asked to join my colony. Sure, I need more people. Little did I know they were there for nefarious reasons. We continued to build the base, life went on as normal for a few days.
I got hit with two raids in quick succession. The first raid were from the Blue Oasis Bandits armed with a bunch of automatic weapons. Pastor, my pawn who could use a gun got hit, but he gunned them down like a pro. Dani, my Doctor who was married to Pastor and pregnant with his child patched him up, but he was pretty injured. During the fight a lightning storm hit starting a couple of fires. Also a trade caravan from a neutral faction arrived sometime around here.
Before I could deal with the fires the second raid hit. They were from the honorless Seichiiro Shogunate. The only other pawns that could use guns were the refugees, so I got them to pick up the automatic weapons and head out with Dani (she was my only pawn with a melee skill) and Pastor came along because he was a much better shot than the refugees even injured. No biggie, gunned them down with ease as they had brought swords to a gunfight.
As I was marking their loot for collection, ordering the digging of more graves etc. I get the message "Ice wolf puppy 2 died" WTF? I see the message that the refugees had turned traitor and one of them proceeded to start gunning down my ice wolves. The other traitor had gone after my two non combat pawns, Fenix and Shrike. They were fleeing as Pastor and Dani tried to deal with the closer traitor who was attacking my wolves. The issue here was that the traitor was fighting through the trade caravan. Pastor was armed with a masterwork chain shotgun which meant it was hard to get a clean shot without risking hitting the caravan. The one after Fenix and Shrike saw them and opened fire hitting Dani in the stomach. Pastor shot him dead, picked her up and tried to run away, getting shot in the back by the other one in the process. She was pretty fucked up but he got them inside at which point the traitor went back to gunning down my wolves. I kept hoping the traitors would hit the trade caravan so they could add their fire power to the fight (I have not my fault installed), but no luck. Meanwhile the fires got closer to my colony.
Fenix was a decent medic, so I was trying to get him to circle around the traitor. The traitor, not satisfied with gunning down four wolves, attacked my cat Rosalina. I was devastated because there was nothing I could do to save her, this was looking really, really bad. My cat stepped up, rushed the traitor and proceeded to beat her to death with her bare claws. Good kitty.
Fenix got in and saved Dani and Pastor before they bled to death. Unfortunately Dani miscarried due to her injuries. On the upside it started raining, meaning my colony is safe for now. Without Rosalina, the colony would have been lost.
