South Korea Lighthouse Passport.

South Korea introduced the National Lighthouse Passport program to promote coastal tourism and maritime heritage, encouraging travelers to visit historical and scenic lighthouses nationwide.

Some are easy to find, others not so. It is a great way to see parts of the country you would never travel to. This passport has taken me 3 months to accomplish.

A Day Visit to Chuja 추자

Taking the fast ferry from Jindo, allows you to spend 8 hours on the island. Chuja is about 1/2 way between the mainland and Jeju, the ferry takes about 45 minutes. The best walk is from the ferry terminal to the beach and then do the lighthouse walk. When you finish you have time for a meal and swim before the ferry returns.

Gunsan Sunset

A city a little underrated, but it’s a great central location for exploring the west coast.

Sunday Walk - Duder Regional Park

A great park to visit winter or summer. Not one of our most visited parks. The scenic coastal loop combines rolling farmland, dramatic peninsula viewpoints, and quiet beaches, with sweeping views across the Hauraki Gulf.
Some of the highlights was the side trip to the historic Whakakaiwhara Pā for panoramic vistas, a relaxed beach lunch stop, and the varied return through sheltered valleys, wetlands, and native coastal bush.

Sunday Walk - Shakespeare Regional Park

On Sunday Auckland we drove an hour north of Auckland to hike the Shakespeare Reserve. This was a moderate hike with plenty of uphill sections which rewarded with expansive views from the top.
The weather was a bit misty with very light rain some of the time but not enough to ruin the day. We enjoyed the waterfall, the bush, the wide open paddocks and the farm animals along the way. The plan was to have lunch on the beach at Te Haruhi Bay but it was wet and blustery.
Luckily, only a matter of a few meters back from the beach there was a very sheltered picnic spot complete with tables, seating and a nearby, clean toilet block. A perfect place for lunch.
Then it was up another hill and through cow paddocks before heading back to our cars.

Sunday Walk - Waiuku - Out and About

We start our Sunday with us all meeting at Mugs & Muffins Café.

We then make our way to the dramatic Karioitahi Beach cliffs, where black sand, rugged waves, and sweeping views create one of Auckland’s most striking coastal scenes.

From there, we are taken on a tour through the peaceful Angrason Gardens, a privately owned gem.

The day ends at the historic Kentish Hotel, proudly standing since 1851, where we unwind together over a drink and enjoy the atmosphere of New Zealand’s oldest license

Sunday Walk - Zion Hill & Pararaha Valley

The walk is described as a “full immersion into one of the west coast’s most dramatic landscapes". First there is a steady climb up Zion Hill, reaching 263m, followed by a descent to the beautiful Pararaha valley.

We followed the stream inland to the Pararaha Valley campsite / shelter for lunch, where castle-like rock cliffs tower above and palm-covered slopes lead down to the stream gurgling below.

After lunch we returned down the valley, this time all the way to the coast, which we followed back to the Tunnel Point campsite and then to the Karekare beach carpark.

Sunday Walk -Orewa Beach and Bush

Even on an overcast, showery day, getting out for a walk is good for the soul. Sometimes you can be rewarded with a great nature photo.

Sunday Walk - Mt. Eden and Mt Hobson.

We spent the day following the lava trails from Mt. Eden and Mt. Hobson. One of the attendees gave us extra information about the lava paths and how they are created. Great to be able to learn and walk at the same time.
