Got my first DNF ARC reader

Womp womp. Said the prose and writing was great, but stopped reading at chapter 8 because they missed the plot.

If only they knew chapter 9 was where the fun started!!

What are your thoughts on Prowritingaid?

Not any of the generative AI features, just for the editing reports?

My first book I relied heavily on alpha and beta readers to pick apart the prose and the grammar. A friend had said they’d been using prowritingaid for years to find things like overused words, pronoun usage and such.

Just curious what you illustrious writers think about it?

How much do you allow dialogue to affect your decision for chapter length?

I tend to write without a great deal of prose, but for my second book I find myself with a lot more dialogue than I’d generally write. Maybe it’s overcompensation for not being so descriptive in the narration, who knows. But I usually come in between 1800-3200 words per chapter. The current chapter I am writing is at about 2500 and is no where near done.

But of that 2500 or so… at least half are just a couple conversations amongst multiple people.

Does that count? I’m not sure it’s really messing with the flow, it would just end up a monster chapter amongst smaller ones.

PLEASE ALLOW 5-7 DAYS FOR JUSTICE - Satirical Science Fiction - October 2026

Blurb for the book:

Cael Irix always reads the fine print.

Every. Single. Word.

Why? Because Cael and Risk had an arrangement: He wouldn’t pursue it, and Risk would have the decency to stay hypothetical, as agreed. The terms were simple: no activity with a personal mortality rate above 0.013%. Interstellar travel made the list. So did carrying more than three grocery bags in one trip.

He was careful. He was thorough. He was, by any reasonable measure, exactly the kind of person that nothing bad should ever happen to.

So when a job listing promised stability, predictable hours, and nothing that required enthusiasm, he applied. He interviewed. He signed. At no point did anyone mention the bounty hunting.

The company is ARBITER. They operate at the intersection of governance, commerce, and accountability. What does that actually mean? They hunt the galaxy’s worst across every billable sector. His job is auditing the expense reports of the hunters. The role was described as risk-adjacent.

Risk, as it turns out, had other plans.

TRIGGERS: 1-2 profane words. Other than that? Nothing

ARC Campaign websites for humorous science fiction

Good Morning Reddit,

I have an ARC posted with Booksirens and it’s not doing very well through their platform. I don’t think it’s the platform, but based on comparing other titles within the same genres it looks like their readers just don’t flow through into humorous sci fi or sci fi in general (at least in large numbers). The ARC campaign is a little over a month old and I think BookSirens has found me 3-4 readers.

I’ve gotten a 3 and 4 start review, so it’s a start, but I was hoping for more prior to release 10/19/26.

Does anyone have recommendations on where to get this book in front of the right demographic of reader?

We are getting much much closer!!

So, we have got everything set to release on 10/19/26! Going through printed copies now from Amazon and Ingramspark to make 100% sure we caught all the typos or grammar issues. But otherwise this one is a wrap!

20k into writing book two currently.

Give me some advice on an ARC campaign when you’re a debut author with zero following!
