Brazen data collection in malls at kiosks / restaurants
I was in Emirates Mall two days ago and convenience wise, found a kiosk selling the exactly electronics item I wanted (let's say it's a battery pack)
Purchase? No problem, they wanted my name, date of birth email address and if I wanted to sign up for a payment plan (like tabby but it was on the POS machine, so probably native to a bank).
What got me was when I asked why they needed all these details if a battery packs warranty only requires the invoice and they said it was policy and they couldn't sell to me unless I gave ALL personal details. I declined the sale and the sales person frustrated said he didn't need it and went ahead with the sale.
When he said he needed to take pictures of invoices for their warranty which would include my credit card details I opted to pay cash which really upset them.
How is this legal?
A restaurant wanted me to sign up for a loyalty program when I placed an order because I'd "get a discount". When I said i wasn't interested they asked ro my mobile number, when I asked why they said it was TO SIGN ME UP even though I said I was not interested.
Someone please explain. Is this legal?
I get the whole data thing but what got me is how annoyed or assertive people are for your data here.
