I happened on this article today. A bit repetitive (but to good effect, I'd say), but pairs wonderfully with Watts's sense that faith is openness to the undefined and unforeknown. A lot in this strikes me as Wattsian, really. It reminds me that he does have a theological bent, too.

Upon Rewatch, I Noticed this Symmetry

Nothing big or anything. But I thought it was a nice visual bookending of things.

Women Don't Ask Questions or Show Engagement (?)

I have heard from many sources, and have to problem at all believing, that a major complaint by women on dates is that men won't ask questions or show real interest. I think that's a very fair gripe to have and that these men are deserving of not getting second dates for this reason.

At the same time, however, I am noticing that women don't seem to ask anything or do much of anything except passively respond when the online conversation is just trying to start. I will answer a woman's prompt (why are women so averse to simply saying hello first and asking something themselves?) and, while doing so, be sure to mention that it is a pleasure to meet them and to politely ask them what their response to the same prompt would be. I do this in order, I would think, to spark a first and easy round of conversation. But I am frequently finding that the women online will only and exactly respond to that turnaround question and then offer literally nothing in addition. If I then go on to use their profiles as a means of politely and cheerfully meaning to foster further talk, I am just as often as not given in return, again, a purely reactive and exact reply to the question I am asking, without so much as a "how about you?" to go with it.

I'm not trying to be on the attack here or anything... But, women--what is going on? Every person who does this also stipulates in her profile that she is on the app with intention, is here to get real communication and not games, etc. --What is even supposed to happen here? Even if we go by the--to me very much outmoded and tiresome--traditional rule that men seek and women are sought, that men initiate and women reply, then still, isn't it reasonable to expect...conversation?

And if I continue to find questions to ask, just to quietly test if the exchange will be entertained on her end in any way, I typically do get a continued series of replies to anything I ask or share. I would think that a lack of interest altogether would not be met with in that way?
