Here's a rundown of the class.

2pm-4pm: We get into the absolute basics, getting started with creating your character and understanding the more simple mechanics of the game, like what character creation is, what do all these numbers mean? Roll Initiative? Skill Checks? What's that? Everything gets answered in this segment.

-BREAK-

4pm-6pm: The second half of the class goes into more detail regarding combat mechanics, spell casting, action economy, and world-building.

6pm-7pm: I'll be running a short game for anyone still in attendance who wants to experience playing the game first hand using the characters you create!

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:

  • something to take notes with (pencil is recommended)

  • something to take notes on. (Paper is recommended.

I will have handouts for everyone but if you have a copy of the latest Players Handbook already I recommend you bring it.

Plant care and watering tips.

Hey guys!

I just wanted to drop a bit of advice for watering your plants!

By watering early in the day you give your trees the oppurtunity to soak up nutrients before the soil gets too warm and causes water to evaporate before the plants get a chance to soak up the nutrients it needs. Not only that but you also reduce the risk of creating hot spots in your trees by concentrating sunlight into little refraction spots that may torch your leaves.

Watering too late in the day is better than watering during the afternoon but some of the issues it creates can include rootrot, it can create the ideal conditions for pests and bacteria to form and establish themselves, and works against the plants natural eat, sleep and rest cycle.

Trees benefit most from a regular and predictable watering cycle and rely on periods of wet and dry periods. Meaning it is best to water your trees 1-3 times per week depending on their specific needs. If you have something like drip irrigation that keeps your soil perpetually wet, your trees may be struggling as they are likely being overwatered or the conditions it is creating are not ideal for the trees growth.

Essentially, wet soil tells your trees its time to eat, and dry soil tells your trees that eating time is over. If your soil is always wet your plant is always eating, and over eating is bad even for plants.

Getting your plants on a consistent watering schedule does wonders for your trees and plants. It's also just a great way to spend an hour or two in the garden.

My current watering schedule is Mondays and Thursdays, I'll usually water around 8am or 9am beore the sun gets too hot. I saturate all the soil around my trees and make sure to give the leaves a good soaking as well to clean off any dust or debris off them.

By watering early in the day you give the tree plenty of time to soak up the nutrients it needs from the soil before the water evaporates away, it also allows for water to evaporate away slowly as the sun heats up instead of creating heatpoints during the hottest part of the day. It reduces the chance of mildew and bacteria forming as well..

This coupled with proper pruning will help with the health and development of your plants and trees. Not to mention how great it feels to chill in the garden first thing in the morning!

Another thing to consider is ground cover, If you have something like wood ships or bark around the base of your tree make sure that you keep a distance around the base of the tree clear from ground cover, at least up to the trees canopy line. Wood chips and mulch will create those overly damp conditions that we want to avoid for trees. Ground cover can be useful in some situations where soil moisture is necessary but for the most part it actively hurts most trees when not applied correctly.

Thanks for reading my long ramblings! If you need help with your trees or plants please don't hesitate to drop me a DM with any questions.

Happy gardening!
