Previous experience?

What was your martial art background before starting judo? It's okay if you don't have any. I started doing Tae Kwon Do since I could walk. I kept with it to do the cool kicks I saw in action films until high school. I started at my current gym when I tried a kickboxing class at my current gym and completely got my ass handed to me. I started there when I realized I needed to change gyms to be more effective.

I only switched to grappling martial arts (bjj) when I helped my grandfather through the late stages of Parkinson's. I realized then maybe getting hit in the head wasn't the best idea. Bjj made me realize I needed some stand up since I didn't want to pull guard so I found judo. I haven't looked back. Through camps and tournaments I found life long friends and I've fostered a deep love for the art. I hope now that I could find the same love for judo in others.

Inspiration

What inspired you to start judo? I initially started martial arts because I wanted to learn the cool kicks I've seen in Jet Lee movies. Eventually I got tired of getting hit in the face and switched to judo/bjj.

I was wondering because recently I went to a judo camp recently and was impressed by the amount of people who do judo and love anime. Alot of judokans cited anime as their inspiration to start judo.

Growing out your hair

So I'd love to grow out my hair again but how do you keep it from getting grabbed or getting caught in the mats? Is it just something you deal with?

Went to loser park in loser town Alabama.

No I couldn't piss on the graves. Too many people around. Weirdly not a single person of color here. Idk why.

Imposter Syndrome

Did you guys ever get the feeling of, "I suck at judo. Why am I doing this?" I just competed in a local tournament I do every year. This time I did the worst I have at any shiai by losing 4 matches and winning. People at open mat are also getting better at defending my throws. Maybe it's just a slump I'm not sure but I don't want to sound like I'm throwing a pity party for myself lol.

Limitations

Good evening folks. Do you have an injury that you work through? How has it changed your approach to judo?

For me I flipped a bike 6 years ago, tore everything in my shoulder, after surgery and a ton of pt I'm back in the full swing of training. I have full range of motion but any throws using your shoulders aggravate the heck out of it. So now I throw mostly left. I do alot of band workouts and modify other strength training to work.

I want to give my little dude a comfy bed but he seems to love peeing on it. 🙃 Is there any way to redirect this behavior? He's 5 but a smart bun. Included a picture for the bun tax.
