Work Assessment Report

I don't know what to make of it. I was assessed on stuff that wasn't even covered in the phone call and there is important information not included and a lot of inaccurate information. If my name wasn't on it I would think I'd been given another persons report.

It seems to contradict a lot of what I said on the phone call. I'm struggling to agree with any of it.

Based on the report, I can see why it scored 0 but, honestly, I don't think I am fit for work at present and don't agree with the report.

Is this normal?

School uniform: letting ALL pupils wear trousers to school in NI, if they want Survey closes on 23rd Aug, 2026

I think a lot of parents and pupils may not be aware of it and that this is their opportunity to have their say.

Short survey below, if you would like to submit your response.

https://consult.nia-yourassembly.org.uk/ad-hoc-committee-on-the-school-uniforms-trousers-bill/call-for-evidence/

Girls may have a legal right to challenge schools to wear trousers but I think it should just be an automatic right. Please see article below on the BBC website.

School Uniforms (Trousers) Bill - Closes 23 Aug 2026

I think it opened for public consultation on 2nd July, 2026 (start of school holidays) and closes on 23rd August, 2026 (before the schools start back).

I think a lot of parents and pupils may not be aware of it and that this is their opportunity to have their say.

Has this been covered on the news?

Girls Wearing Trousers To School

Some schools are still very reluctant to let girls wear trousers to school. I am hoping this changes but do you think all schools should give girls a choice?

Just curious.

(3months) Post Cataract Surgery

An elderly family member had cataract surgery in early May and still has extreme sensitivity to light and a gritty feeling in the eyes etc that is hindering sleep.

Can anyone recommend good eye care and suitable gels to encourage natural eye lubrication?

Thank you.

Experiences teaching English abroad

Are you from here and have you any experience teaching English abroad?

Where did you teach / are you teaching English abroad?

What are your qualifications?

Can you tell me the pros and cons you discovered?

Can you offer any other additional advice?

Many thanks.

For context, I have a PhD in psychology, I am NOT a qualified teacher and do not have a TEFL qualification. I do have teaching experience though (but not teaching English). Teaching in a European country appeals to me.

Wheelie Bin Lock

I can see someone has a similar problem and I may have found a solution.

Someone or others keep using my bin (it has to stay in a common area where everyone puts their bins) and so has anyone used a wheelie bin lock and, if so, what type and did it solve the issue?

Teaching English: advice please?

Background: Aged 55, female with a psychology PhD, some teaching experience in UK Universities (years ago) but no TELF certificate.

Is this sufficient or do I need to do anything else?

Best countries to teach English abroad given my background.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

NI: UC and ill health

I am on UC but the GP provided a fit note and so my work coach has said I don't have to look for work. This was nearly three months ago and my work coach has only recently contacted me.

My GP is willing to provide further fit notes and I feel I do need to focus on my health and wellbeing.

I have an extended telephone call with my work coach soon and don't know what to expect.

The pressure to get a job when I've had 1,000's of job rejections is breaking me. I'm simply burned out...

I have filled in a form about my health conditions and am waiting to hear about that.

Can anyone advise the best way forward?

Small sized gold band (ladies wedding ring, most likely)

Small sized gold band (ladies wedding ring, most likely)

I know nothing about this except to say a poster was put up days ago in Ravenhill Avenue in Belfast and the poster is still there. It says on the poster that if the ring is yours it will be handed in to Ladas Drive Police for collection (this was days ago).

It could be that the owner has been reunited with the ring but I thought I would post on here for reach as someone was kind enough to make and print a poster and possibly took the ring to Ladas Drive Police for collection. Also, someone could be worried about their missing ring.

Teaching English Abroad: Some Advice Needed

I have a PhD in psychology from a UK university and am a female in my 50's. I have some experience as a teaching assistant in higher education (criminology) but I don't have any TEFL qualifications.

What would I need to do to TEFL in Europe or in other countries?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Possibly lost or stolen bike?!

There is a bike that appears to have been abandoned in the Ravenhill area of Belfast. It has been there for some weeks.

If you know of anyone that has lost their bicycle or had their bike stolen, please respond and if you can name the bike brand and colours I will tell you where it is.

I am genuinely giving stuff away on this site but recently my posts are being subject to moderation, I'm having to contact the moderators and waiting on them, which is slowing things down.

Anyone else have this difficulty with Freecycle?
