Mitsubishi mini-split CN105 ESPHome - Input Power Oscillation?

Mitsubishi mini-split CN105 ESPHome - Input Power Oscillation?

I had a new Mitsubishi mini-split installed in June. Added a ESPHome device via the CN105 connector. I've been watching the data. The input power I'm getting via the CN105 connector seems odd to me:

The oscillation happens during the coolest part of each day. I see a corresponding oscillation in the temperature and humidity data I'm collecting via a separate ESPHome SHT30 device in the middle of the room.

Is this normal for a hot, humid, August day in coastal North Carolina, USA? It's 90+ degrees F outside. I expected more of a "power on" or "power off" behavior. I know these units modulate, but I didn't expect to see this. I'm wondering if there's a problem with this unit?

Order delivery and customer control

A rant.

I'm doing a project for my 91-year-old mother who lives 700 miles away. I'm a HD stock holder so I like to do business with them. Some items I need are available immediately and locally, so I picked those up. Other items, like a door, need to be ordered. The website says delivery could be as early as the middle of next week. (I ordered on a Wednesday.) I decide to have those items delivered to my mother's house, since I plan to be there late Sunday. My mother uses a walker and is not capable of receiving these items. Hours after I order, the shipment and tracking emails and texts start appearing. Everything is going to show up before I get there. The items going via UPS can be delayed if I pay, which I do. The large door is going via FedEx, and neither HD or I can change the delivery. Kind of frustrating. My door's going to sit outside in the weather for 2 days.

I understand that in this world, delivery faster and earlier are pleasent surprises most of the time.

HD, if you're listening, this customer would like to be able specify a "no earlier than" date on delivery orders, or something like that.

Also, HD, if you're listening, I spent way too much time on your website trying to find a way to give you this customer feedback, and it seems impossible. What kind of retail company makes hearing from the customer so difficult?

Refinishing a garage door

Yes I know this is a furniture subreddit. I'm hoping you can tolerate my post and give me some wood refinishing tips.

This is a garage door. My goal isn't some front door beauty piece. I just want to clean it up for my mother. As you can see, the exterior finish is rough. Whatever it is she put on the door has started to peal or bubble off. The interior of the door looks good, other than a little water damage. This project is 700 miles away, so I need to gather some things to bring with me.

My plan:

  1. Remove the door and put on saw horses.
  2. Strip only the exterior with that common citris-based stripper.
  3. Sand the exterior after stripping.
  4. Fill and sand the cracks/splits.
  5. Refnish with something designed for southern exposure in the northeast USA.

I don't need it to look perfect. I just need it to stand up to some weather and look better.

I have questions:

  1. What should I fill the panel cracks with?
  2. What exterior finish would you recommend?

Ideally stuff I can get at a big box store.

Changing Spark Plugs & Oily Cyl 5 Coil Pack

Just sharing a disappointing day.

2015 Frontier V6. I decided to change the plugs today. I opted to follow one of the YouTube videos that shows how to do the job without removing the intake manifold. The 4th plug I changed was cylinder 5 (passenger side near the firewall). Coil pack came out with oil. I finished the job anyway, and was rewarded with a small puff of blue smoke when I started it.

I'm frustrated because I spent several hours today avoiding the intake manifold removal, and now it seems the manifold will have to come off anyway. I don't have small gynecologist hands and could have used the space today.

I start researching the leaking spark plug hole problem and it seems like there's not a gasket replacement for that. Do I really have to replace the valve cover to fix this?

And then I read that both valve covers should be replaced if over 100,000 miles (I am). Really?

Anyone have some recent dealer service cost examples for this job? (Replace 2 valve covers.)

Infrequent diner - why are the tables always dirty?

I can count on one hand the number of times I've been to a Chipotle. Every time I walk in, I see many of the dining tables are still dirty. There's nobody cleaning the dining area either. I understand when there are lots of customers, but today I took my mother into one at 4:30pm. No other customers in the restaurant. Many tables are dirty. We got ours to go & left, but as a customer I start wondering:

  1. Have these tables been dirty since lunch?

  2. If the dining area is this dirty, what does the kitchen look like?

I suspect the problem is not having enough staff. This is no way to run a restaurant business though.

Risk of existing R4 duct condensation/sweating with Variable-Stage Heat-Pump Upgrade?

Coastal North Carolina, USA home. 28 years old. Built 1998. 1800-1900 sq ft.

I'm in the process of getting quotes to replace a 2-zone 3-ton heat-pump. One zone doesn't cool very well and I'm asking for quotes that solve that problem. Some companies are suggesting inverter variable-stage systems. (I know there are various opinions on this more modern tech.) Another company suggested I not use a inverter variable-stage system, and warned that my current R4 ducts (in the attic) will sweat if I do. I have no signs of sweating now. Internet search results also suggest sweating might be a new problem for me. I'm interestedin hearing from people who've actually seen this happen with a variable-stage upgrade?

A friend and I took a trip today to see a few recumbent trikes at a bike shop. The two men working there were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I took a short test ride in the parking lot. My first impressions are “mixed” and I’m wondering if I’m missing something.

I received instructions on how to mount the trike. I backed over the pedals from the front. After trying this maneuver a few times I started to wonder how much chain oil was going to end up on my shorts every time I got on? The bottom of my shorts skimmed the top of the front gears and derailleur every time I got on and off. I’m going to assume I’d either learn to mount more carefully, or deal with oil on clothing.

Sitting down in the seat was unsettling because I’m an older guy and it was like sitting on a very small toilet. A long way down. Getting up was easier. I’d probably own a trike with larger front tires and a higher seat, so I assume this gets better over time.

The actual ride was the worst part, and it’s difficult to explain. The parking lot was typical pavement, in pretty good shape. I could feel the rough pavement in my back-side and it was a strong feeling of rough road. I ride a bicycle every week and don’t get that feeling at all. I know the touch points are different. I really didn’t like this feeling on the trike. It wasn’t seat discomfort. It was road vibration being passed to my bottom, back and neck. The ride was fine other than the rough ride feeling.

We talked about the possibility of my son and I sharing a trike. My son’s taller. I learned that chain length is an important part of the trike fit. I also learned about something called a chain gobbler, which would solve the chain problem and let us share a trike.

I’m interested in a trike because I have some discomfort with my bicycle after an hour or so. I’m still working through that problem. I expected the trike to feel like a couch compared to my bicycle, but it didn’t feel great actually riding the trike. I’m guessing a trike with suspension would help – maybe.

EDIT: I believe I test road a TerraTrike Tourismo, which explains the lower seat. I'm on the US east coast and there are very few "revere tadpole trikes" being sold around here. None that I can find in my city. We drove about 2 hours to find the shop we visited this week.
