Terraforming - I feel like I'm cheating

Anyone else feel terraforming is way too easy?

I intentionally design games with very few planets. I want ideal worlds to be extremely rare, so habitats and finding ways to live with low habitability is a big part of the game.

But then I get terraforming early on. And it just takes 2 years to turn a 20% habitability planet into an 80%. It only costs 10,000 energy.

Now I'm approaching 2300. I have 70 systems and 7 perfect planets (all but the homeworld terraformed.)

It was just... too easy. the costs were low. the payoff was huge. the wait time was trivial. And there's no need to get into all the other interesting work arounds - genetic engineering or robots, migration treaties or cyborgs (love cyborgs), Voidborn habitats or automation.

Well, you get it.
Think at me please, fellow nerds.

goats. chickens. bows. so confused.

I recently invested a decent amount of money into plot extensions. Chickens, cabbage, goats, and bows.

The production from goats is... insulting.
Chickens trickle in eggs. Cabbage give me something stupid like 6 every 6 months.

And bows produce 80 SUPRLUS BOWS every 6 months.

So... is that right, is that the intention?
Food extensions are cute, but insignificant. Artisans are proper sources of production. ?

Will they produce more if I upgrade the plot?

I just... I just wish it wasn't so hard to find the mechanics.
I wouldn't have invested so much money in to effing goats if they were in no way a realistic source of food. But I didn't know that, because it says it NOWHERE in the game. Info online is inconsistent, a lot of people are guessing.

Which, again: why do we have to guess?

I don't understand why wildly important info, like the rate of production, is so opaque.

Sorry if I've misunderstood something. Don't mean to be bitchy when I'm the one making mistakes.
But, I built the bower, and he rocked it, sold a bunch of bows. And I was like "aha. this'll be a good investment into my food economy!" I looked up goats in the help menu. It said almost nothing. I put all my money in to food extensions, and then... they produce almost no food and we're barely surviving winter. It's kind of a big setback.

Thanks for the insights.

Trade. so confused.

Dedicated traders arrives. Takes no tiles. give no gold. then leaves.

I also have my own horse assigned to the trade.
My horse never leaves. never trades. takes no tiles, earns no gold.

I don't think I've misunderstood the mechanic. help. I want to like this game, but I'm losing interest.

Militia. so confused.

It's my first game.
The game gifted me 20 spears and 20 shields when I built 5 houses and said "form a militia!"

But I can't.

The in-game "Help" tab tells me I need a minimum of 5 dudes with equipment. Which I have.
And I have to give them a place to rally. Which I've done.

but then I'm staring at this "recruits missing!" note, and I've got no little soldiers to go fight the bandits.

So, wtf.
How does this work?

Thanks team <3
