Jacob is just a baby who was found as a stray and is now on the euthanasia list at an overcrowded municipal shelter in Houston, TX. Our Pennsylvania-based foster rescue wants to save him, but we need foster coverage in both

Honey doesn’t meet you at the front of her kennel. She stays back, half hidden, like she is trying to decide if it is safer to be seen or not seen at all. When she does move, it is fast and unsure, like her body is always a step ahead of her comfort level.

The first few times I saw her, she still had her harness on and nobody was really getting close enough to take it off in a way that felt calm for her. You could tell she was overwhelmed, not defiant. Just stuck in that tense space where everything feels like too much. On walks she can get frantic, not because she wants to be difficult, but because the world outside the kennel hits her all at once.

One day I stayed longer with her than I usually do. I just sat there and let her be. No pressure, no expectations. And slowly, she started to soften. She took treats from my hand like she was testing the idea that maybe not everything was going to overwhelm her at once. That moment stuck with me because it showed what is underneath all that stress.

Honey is not a broken dog or a hard dog. She is a good dog who has been trying to cope in an environment that is too much for her. She deserves a chance to step out of that constant pressure and finally breathe in a place that feels safe enough for her to come back to herself.
