Xcellent Technology Solutions GIS Experience

Has anyone worked for Xcellent Technology Solutions
And what was your experience? I recently applied to one of their GIS positions and I got a call from them today, wanting to do a phone interview. I checked the reviews on glassdoor and indeed, but they didn’t get too much of great reviews, but there wasn’t many GIS position related reviews. Just wondered if anybody would be willing to share their experience.

Hybrid Work Experience

I recently graduated with a B.S in Geological Science and I already started my job search over a year ago. However, during my job search, I faced several problems. I’m located in small town in Central Illinois that is too far to commute to any decent job hub like Chicago, Chicagoland, Peoria, or Springfield. Unfortunately, most geology related jobs are over an hour and a half commute from where I live. It’s too expensive for me to move out and relocate as of now. So it’s been very difficult to find a geology related job within a decent driving distance. I expanded my job search within a 60 mile radius and I was able to apple to some jobs. Unfortunately, no responses.

So given the background of my current situation, I’ve seen several jobs listed as #hybrid or #remote, and I wondered if that is really possible for a geology position to be hybrid or remote? Has anyone worked in a hybrid setting? How flexible is it? I don’t have the expectations of hybrid geology positions to be very flexible like to work onsite 1 day a week and the rest remote. It would just be nice if I don’t have to commute to Chicago or the other job hubs on a daily basis.

Complicated transcript situation

Hello, I’m currently recently applied for a federal government job and I was initially set to graduate this spring, and I put completed bachelors degree on my resume. but my academic advisor emailed me today, saying that she made an error and I needed to take one more course for just 1 credit. Therefore I won’t be getting my degree and completed transcripts until late July. The concern I have is that I already applied for a position. With my resume saying that I have a bachelors degree, but my unofficial transcripts will show I’m missing a credit. I’m just concerned that it will come across falsifying records. What should I do.

I’m also really frustrated because I was wanting to apply for some other job positions, but they require a bachelors degree and I now have to wait until I officially get my degree before I can apply to jobs again.

Any advice?

How to report a bad academic advisor

Hello, I was on track to graduate this summer and completing the 3 remaining course requirements. I was in constant communication with my academic advisor everytime I was enrolling, swapping, or transferring a course for credit. All was good after completing transferring my last course to complete for graduation.

However, she contacted me today and said I actually have 1 credit left that I need to complete before I can graduate. Keep in mind, for spring semester, she told me that I just needed complete 9 credits and encourage me to enroll for Summer graduation. But she briefly said it’s actually 10 credits. Therefore, one of my courses should have been 4 credits.

When she told me this, I asked her why didn’t you let me know beforehand, and she said that the system wouldn’t let her know until after the courses would be completed?(which doesn’t make sense). So I let her know that I was very disappointed about this inconvenience because of the lack of communication and now I can’t graduate because I have to take another course. She apologized for the confusion and told me to request permission to enroll in a listed 1 credit course.

Because I let her know my frustration about the situation, I kind of feel like she’s delaying the process because I did get permission to enroll in a one credit course, and I immediately contacted my advisor after and she did not contact me back. I contacted her an hour ago and I still have not heard back. This is not normal for her. She’s normally prompt with her emails. i’m extremely frustrated with the situation and her lack of professionalism and communication.

Any suggestions on how to report a bad academic advisor?

Manning equation homework help

I received some feedback on my homework that applies the Manning Equation to determine the highest water level of Rapid Creek for discharge at Dark Canyon (rectangle channel). I attached a screenshot.

While I did correct the slope value, I’m mainly confused by his feedback of not mentioning length L= height of water.

This is my first time using this equation and most of the values were taken from Google Earth. I did email him, but his instructions were still unclear.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, I just recently got a new job offer and I’m currently filling out the background check information and they want an entire wrap sheet on my work history, the problem is that I’m in a sticky situation.

During the job interview process, it took a long time. During that time, I was working in a retail job for over five years. It was extremely toxic. I ended up leaving before interviewing for this job. Because they took a long time to get back to me regarding the interview. I already got another job in retail. I’ve only been working for just a month at this job, however, this new job is not on my résumé or mentioned in the job interview.

Should I mention my new job or not? My big concern is that it might come through in the background check and I don’t want to jeopardize this new job offer

What should I do?

I interviewed for an GIS internship and while I was waiting to hear back I also got an interview for a GIS job position. I just heard back from the internship that I was accepted. What should i do if job interview goes well and they want to offer me a position? Considering how bad the market it, I kinda want to accept the internship, and if I get offered a job, I would prefer to take the job then because it’s better job stability.

What should I do?

My field camp professor just released the field camp syllabus, which is coming up next month. I’m extremely overwhelmed and anxious with the amount of learning topics that are involved. Groundwater interactions, environmental chemistry, slope stability, aquifer protection, groundwater hydrology, hazard assessments, environmental remediation, water chemistry, soil sampling, etc.

Although I have taken the required prerequisites for this field camp, and I’m currently taking a structural geology course. I still feel very underprepared knowledge wise in these concepts. I’m especially concerned about the chemistry emphasis because I do not have a very strong background in chemistry with barely passing my general chemistry courses.

I’m trying to look up learning resources that will help me brush up or crash course learning some of these concepts prior to field camp.

What are the specific math and chemistry equations/concepts that will be primarily used?

I'm trying to prepare myself as much as I can before attending field camp. Any advice or suggestions for learning resources that helped you out with some of these concepts would be greatly appreciated!
