hi everyone ! i am going into my second year of enviromental geoscience, and i have “sedimentology and stratigraphy” as well as “intro to mineralogy” coming up in the fall. does anyone have any good textbooks / sites / journals or any material that goes over introductory rock and mineral identification ? i was told that having a good basis makes these classes a lot easier.

essentially what it says on the tin.

geology and astrophysics student here. mineralogy starts in a month. how the hell do i survive this class with an A *AND* my sanity intact…. i hear horror stories.

i’m not stupid by any means, but i’m still nervous due to the sheer amount of content i know will be presented to me in this class (mostly since i have a full time credit load this semester and a full time job and undergraduate research to do 🥲🥲).

i’ve heard thus far to spend as much time in the lab looking at the hand samples as i can. i have a decent amount of microscopy experience as i already have a degree in archaeology wherein my primary research focused on cryptotephra, so i’m not too worried about that aspect.

i already got a print copy of our textbook (confirmed text with professor via email a couple weeks ago) as i know i will want it for studying and future reference. if anyone has any study tips, let me know…. taking suggestions for study methods, annotation strategies, notecard methods, etc.

EDIT: wanted to note i have uni physics I and gen chem I as well as my intro geology courses done. don’t know how relevant those are besides chemistry but if it contextualizes things… 🤝
