first-year applicant eligibility

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student who graduated from high school in 2026 and I'm planning to apply to Brown for Fall 2027 (Class of 2031) after taking a gap year.

I have a question about first-year applicant eligibility. If I enroll in a university after high school but withdraw before completing one full semester of academic coursework, would I still be eligible to apply to Brown as a first-year applicant rather than a transfer applicant?

I read Brown's eligibility guidelines, which seem to say that students who enroll at another college but complete less than one semester and withdraw may still apply as first-year applicants. However, I wanted to hear if anyone has had personal experience with this situation or knows someone who has.

If I enroll in a university in my home country after high school but immediately take a leave of absence before attending any classes (so I do not complete any academic coursework at all), would that still affect my eligibility as a first-year applicant to Brown? Or would I still be considered a first-year applicant since I haven’t actually started any college-level coursework?
