Help Dad pick computer for EE Freshman Son
Pretty much what the title says. If you happen to be an EE major at Brown, I'd love to know your thouhgts on Mac vs. PC and overall specs for a laptop. Thanks in advance for your time.

how does this sequence of classes sound. I am a sophomore transfer for reference and i'm not sure if I am getting in over my head, especially since it will be a transition period to a new school
Calc 0100 (calc pt2)
Math 0520 (linear algebra)
CSCI 0170 (integrated intro)
Econ Intermediate Macro
hiii, im an incoming freshman and i was wondering how much calculus is in chem 0330. i took calculus in high school and i passed the calc ab exam but i dont remember much since i took it two years ago. should i retake calc I or should i just go forward?
Hi! I'm an incoming freshman planning to major in physics. I wanted to know if it is common to skip the intro physics sequence (70 & 160) and jump into 470? I'm taking MAT 350 first semester too, but I have self-studied multivariable calculus over the summer and I have done physics olympiads at intl level so I was wondering if it is acceptable & beneficial to take 0470 first semester.
I don't want to rush stuff but I would really like to dive into cool advanced physics as soon as possible.
Thank you!
hey, incoming freshman here. i wanted to ask if anyone has any idea of how single dorms are in keeney (arch bron specifically)!!
also why is there barely anything about brown on socials?
Please post your one-off questions in this thread
I've been a fan of Brown University's transformation into a research heavy weight. But I've also been worried about seeing more STEM courses and research plans emphasize things like justice, responsibility, ethics, social guard-rails. Shouldn't that be kept out of pure research and left as policy discussion in social sciences and humanities? Is Brown University's STEM culture going to be about the excitement of discovery or about worrying about social implications and pulling punches?
In a nutshell: I want the academic freedom to think my reductionist little thoughts without having to worry about potential social side effects.
Summary of discussion. Brown University to Catholic Church 400 years ago: "Hold my beer."
There haven’t been many posts this year about academic warning letters, but I received an email from Brown saying that my offer is being reconsidered due to a significant drop in my grades. I am absolutely horrified especially given brown starts in a mere couple of weeks and i've been assigned everything and paid my tuition. I was wondering if anyone here has received a similar email, either this year or in the past, and what the outcome was for you. Am I gonna be rescinded?
my main concern is the workload. is this manageable ?? realistically. can yall tell me your experience with any of the following classes : math 0180/0520, csci 0170. it would really help !
french is my native langage btw (gatekeeping the course tag :p)
The older posts about calculating GPA are all so different and in my email to Brown I was told they count S with distinction as A, and avoid counting S as anything. I’m not looking to apply to graduate school but am wondering how people here would calculate their GPA to put on their resume for tech / finance adjacent roles.
Incoming freshman here thinking about concentrating in APMA-Econ. I was wondering what the overall vibe/community in the department is like.
I’m also coming in with a relatively weak math foundation, so I’m a little worried about how doable the concentration would be for me. How rigorous are the classes, and is it possible to catch up if you aren’t super strong at math going in?
Also curious about career options.
Would really appreciate any experiences/advice!
currently deciding between taking chin 0100 or chin 0350. not looking for a class with too much workload or stress as I am chinese myself. However, i am unable to write and can read at maybe hsk 2-3 level. would chin 0100 be too easy? or would chin 0350 be too challenging?
Freshman enrolling in fall, probably premed. is this too much?..
hi! i’m an incoming freshman looking to go premed. i never ended up taking AP chem in high school, so all ive had is a year of chemistry in sophomore year. with that experience, would it be way too hard to go into chem 0330? should i take the intro first?
seems like a hard feat to me. you have to be pretty intentional about your courses
As the title mentions — I’m confused which one to buy. Please let me know if you have any insights!
And don't get me wrong I love the patina, but it'd be cool to see them in a bright glistening bronze and watch them naturally patina over time again; it's inevitable.
incoming premed freshman. ill be taking chem 0330 which ive heard is pretty difficult so please let me know how my schedule looks and if it is manageable or not. please let me know if its too much or too little.
Hey. I am an international student and this is my first time coming to campus. I am a bit anxious about travel, because Ive heard some trains dont operate at night. I would also have plenty of luggage. I think perhaps my best option would be uber/lyft? But I have heard cancellations can be a thing at night especially if the ride is longer. Do the airport taxis take you to brown safely? Is there any other option I should have in mind?
Would appreciate helpful responses. Thanks!
This is kind of random, but I’m in high school, and I’m in a rock band that plays originals and covers and regularly does local shows at bars, and other smaller live music venues.
I’m starting to look at college options, and while I don’t plan to be a music major, I am interested in going to a place that has some scene of students creating bands, playing at local pubs or student parties, etc.
Is that a thing that happens at Brown, or not really? I’ve looked into BCA and spring weekend seems fun, but it’s hard to get a sense of the vibe just from online descriptions.
Thank you!
