Hey all — looking for some insight from anyone who’s dealt with IRS liens or installment agreements.

I recently logged into my IRS account and saw that Notices of Federal Tax Lien were filed for multiple tax years (2022–2024).

I pulled the actual public record (IL) and confirmed:

Lien filed: March 29, 2026 (recorded April 112026)

Total amount: about $66k

Covers multiple years (2022–2024)

Here’s where I’m confused:

About 2 months ago, I worked with an IRS agent to set up a direct debit installment agreement.

At that time, I was specifically told:

There was no lien filed

Setting up the payment plan would stop collections and prevent liens

Since then:

My plan is current

Payments are being made (~$1,050/month)

I’m fully compliant

But despite that, this lien was still filed.

My questions:

Is it normal for the IRS to file a lien AFTER a payment plan is already set up? (Was this likely already in motion before the agreement?)

Did the agent give me incorrect information, or is this just how the process works?

Is there any realistic way to get this withdrawn or reversed now that I’m in compliance?

How much does this actually affect:

Personal loans / credit cards

Business funding

Has anyone here successfully gotten a lien withdrawal while on a payment plan (without paying everything off)?

Additional context:

I’m fully committed to paying this off and staying compliant

Just trying to understand if this situation is normal and what my best move is now

Would really appreciate any insight or personal experiences—especially if you’ve dealt with timing like this.
