Im having a hard time choosing gear for my ridgerunners and wondering about the spotter wargear option rising up lately

Indirect shooting with a unit that doesnt have the wargear:

- Hasnt moved

- Has a unit spotting for them

Will fail shots on a 1-3, so hits on 4s, the mortars base Ballistic skill. And then 5s because of cover

But Ive seen discussions lately that it will hit on 4s with the spotter(?) which seems redundant? Because cover will always make everything hit on 5s when shooting indirectly if you are following the “didnt move, and has a spotting unit” intentions.

Help me understand because Im walking in circles here

Learning the reductive technique with the beautiful villainy ink enamel set from grimdark compendium. As well as some oils from AK and masters touch.

Love the effects and use cases but I still struggle balancing the satin to matte altering with thinning. A nice finish helps when controlled, and Ive tried ak grime, oils, and villainy ink. As well as getting true “texture” and darkening.

Starting with a grey to white primer before basing helps a lot because this gets the colors dark and muted.

I also purchased abteilung paints by AK. Biggest pro from someone who uses oil washes and pints is they dry fairly quickly compared to the average oil paint that takes hours to be dry to the touch, before you can then paint again over it with acrylics whilst it cures. This was used in a reverse highlight by putting them in the shadows.

Prior to anything I covered it in a texture (liquid greenstuff), typhus corrosion/watered down army painter rust effects. This is so it has effects and texture for the enamels to grip. The rougher finish the better imo.

Whilst doing this, I will stop doing verdigris effects like this and go back to Vallejo green rust/army painter verdigris. Decay of death and coelia green dont work well with the wet blending method Ive been attempting.

Hope to learn this well enough, still working on this model after 2 weeks… Thank god for enamel reactivation to start over
