The Mystery of the Missing Tow Truckers (Urban Legend)

Town P. had always lived its quiet, routine life — until rookie tow truck drivers started vanishing. At first, people only whispered about it, but soon it became the main talk on every street corner. Now, every local newspaper writes about the disappearances, and missing person flyers cover the utility poles along the main avenues: *“Missing: Ivan S., tow truck driver, hasn't been seen in three days,”* *“Looking for my brother — he drove a flatbed, vanished near the old factory”*...

It always happens following the exact same pattern. A rookie goes out for their first or second shift, receives their first call — and simply dissolves. No sign of the driver, no sign of the truck. No skid marks, no witnesses, no debris. It’s as if someone flipped a switch, and the vehicle with its driver just ceased to exist.

Locals whisper about a phantom tow truck. No one knows what it looks like or what kind of rig it is. They say it appears at dusk when the traffic thins out. You can't see it in the rearview mirror, but if you turn around — just for a split second — you might catch a dark silhouette behind the wheel of a massive, plateless truck.

Some claim they’ve heard the muffled roar of an engine in empty courtyards where no heavy machinery should ever be. Others swear they saw an old flatbed with its headlights off, slowly moving down an abandoned road on the outskirts — only to fade into the fog.

The most chilling part is the "Graveyard of Nameless Tow Trucks." It actually exists: out past the old junkyard, hidden among rusted car hulls, stand dozens of abandoned flatbeds. Their license plates are gone, the cabins are empty, and their doors bear strange markings, as if someone dragged heavy claws across the metal. The police searched the area but found zero clues. Now, drivers strictly avoid those outskirts.

Theories are multiplying. Some believe the phantom trucker is the spirit of a deceased colleague who died on duty. He’s taking revenge on the rookies for taking "his" road. Others believe it’s a portal: the trucks slip into a parallel dimension, condemned to tow ghostly cars into nowhere forever. The pragmatics guess it’s just a highly organized ring of car thieves using urban legends as a cover. But why take the drivers? And why only the rookies?

The locals have already developed a grim humor: *“Want to test if you're a real tow truck driver? Work for a week. If you’re still here — congrats.”* But there is genuine fear in their eyes. Because the disappearances haven't stopped. And every new driver, getting behind the wheel, involuntarily looks into the mirror — checking if anyone is following close behind...

Found this deeply weathered truck in the woods of Karelia. What do you think this "barn find" originally was? [OC]

It’s sitting in a forest, heavily rusted and slowly being reclaimed by nature. Let’s see who can guess the exact make and model of this old timer!

Meet Miner YAY — the very first character of my new "YAY" series!

«Right now, this series isn't my main priority because I'm fully focused on another project. But once I'm done, these guys will be popping up here from time to time.**The concept of the "YAY" series is a collection of characters who share the exact same anatomy and proportions. They have different professions, hobbies, and distinct visual features, but they all share one thing in common: they are extremely angry, grumpy, and constantly pissed off. ****Their names are always tied to their jobs, creating a sarcastic contrast: Fisherman YAY, Chef YAY, and so on. **With that said, meet the "YAY" Miner!»
