Indian parents: why don’t promote kid to talk with other adults

When I was growing up in India, my parents rarely introduced me to other adults in the family or among friends in a way that encouraged conversation. I almost never asked relatives about their careers, life experiences, or how they became successful. Looking back, I feel I missed many opportunities to learn from people around me.

Now I notice the same thing with my nieces and nephews. They are polite, but they rarely ask me about my work, career, or how I got to where I am. Their parents also don’t seem to encourage those conversations.

Is this a common pattern in Indian families? Do parents intentionally keep children from seeking advice outside the immediate family, or is it simply not part of the culture? In many other cultures, children are encouraged to talk to different adults, ask questions, and learn from their experiences. I’m curious whether others have noticed this too, or if my experience is unusual.

It’s so bad that, my family had some very successful people in journalism, engineering or govt but I learned nothing from them!

It feels like kids are never taught to ask question to others?

Why current protests don’t work.

I see here many people getting frustrated that why govt can quash protests like this with no consequences.

Most Reddit users are urban or at max tier 2 cities. Unfortunately govt is elected mostly with rural votes. If you observe carefully most of the issues CJP is raising are mostly urban issues like exams or the e20. Most rural population doesn’t care as much about it.

While it’s good to protest but just replacing minister or govt isn’t gonna fix Indians problems. The core issue is lack of respect for common rules in India. This includes everyone politicians to govt employees and normal people. To make a country functional all it takes is people who follow defined rules.

If protest is really worth something then that’s the protest we need. Isolated issues that only matter to few isn’t gonna make difference.

I would recommend voting out bjp. That’s good but that’s not the core problem.
