Please help! Need a name in 5 days!

Hi, I am 18(f), and I can finally change my name! But im so torn, so please help. My current top contenders are: Selene, Ivy, Hazel, Esther, Sylvie, and Eve. I have a Chinese last name, starting with Z and pronounced like Jo. I am going to uni in Canada, BC, for reference. I'll keep the following as concise as possible, please please bear with me, I really want some namnerds help on this.

Selene: I like how it sounds + looks, sleek. But Celine is the more common spelling(especially in Canada with Celine Dion), and I don't like this spelling, nor correcting people. Also, somehow Selina/Selena is kind of a megapopular name among Chinese students just like Vivian, I've met 6, and when I searched my uni's classof2030, a ton came up, and yes 95% of them are Chinese. I don't really want to join this Selina-gang.

Ivy: I like the sound and how this sub says it's 'subtly edgy but still chill'. But it's only 3 letters, I find it a bit short when written. Also, it's getting viral among kids. I'm also a bit worried if this name is too 'pretty' for me. I am not the dainty pretty girl type(but also not boyish), I don't know if this name gives off that dainty image like Cecilia.

Hazel: My old name starts with H, so there's some connection. I also like it feels a bit 'quirky' and it's not too pretty. But again, it's popular among kids. Also, the sound of it isn't pleasant in Chinese - it's the exact same as "black" + "walk", Im not sure how much I mind that. I also worried that Hazel Zhou(Jo) doesn't look or roll of the tongue that well together. I am not into hazelnut or the hazel color.

Esther: I like that it sounds distinct and looks special. However, I don't like the strong Biblical connection. Also, there was an IG video with 100k likes about how this name is one of the super super popular Korean english names. Funny enough, my old name is also on the list. And yes I have been repeatedly mistaken as Korean, which is a bit annoying.

Eve: Like how it looks sharp and that it meant night/life. However, theres the biblical association, the same megapoularity with all the Evas and Evelyns in my uni, and it's even shorter than Ivy. And I also know an Eva and also sort of know an Eve.

Sylvie: Like how it looks. However, this name is very dated in the French area. I checked Canadian's name stats, and boy, there is a lot of people with this name in total (and they are mostly not my age), even more than my old name(which is very very popular among millennials).

❤️ That is all, if you read till here, thank you soo soooo much for the time. I really want to know how you guys think. Yes I will bring up the options to my friends, but I want some namenerds' advice first! TIA

"chill" and effortless girl names

I don't know how to describe it better but like some names automatically have a clear vibe or style that mostly everyone can put up: Evangeline or Cecilia give off strong "pretty name" vibes; Audrey and Clara give off strong "classy/elegant" vibes; Matilda and Natalia give off strong vintage vibes.

But some names are the type that don't give off any strong vibes at first glance, only when you look a bit closer you realize their appeal. My example would be Aubrey, Ivy, Lena, Zoe, and Phoebe. These type of names feel "chill" and effortless to me.

Names that go with Pearl and Selene?

I have been a namenerd since like forever, but I've got a tricky case that I just cant find "the right name": My cousin is about to have their third baby girl, but can't find a name. She knows I've been on Namenerd, so she wants to post here for some Namenerd's inspiration:)

I don't really know how to describe their name taste, but they really love Pearl and Selene, and they said it "felt right" lol. They don't really like popular names, nor short names (within 5 letters), nor names that end in "a".

- Names they like but didn't want to use are: Sylvie (didn't want two S, and my cousin's husband is a French Canadian, so he felt like it's an "average middle-aged woman" name), Eve (too short, religious association, and all the Ev- names being popular), Irene (too similar to Selene, and too old)

- Some names they kind of like but didn't really click are: Phoebe ("it's quirky but in a way boaderlining funny" lol), Hazel (not keen on its sound, also quite popular), Jules (didn't like any long form), Leila, Iris, Camille, Audrey

Incoming freshman, when do we start to register courses?

UBC's website said 23rd June, so I thought I'd start looking at some courses now (as I completely have no idea what this course selection process will be like). But when I search on Workday "Find Course Sections" for 2026-27 Winter Session (UBC-V) Undergraduate, there's nothing.

Did I enter anything wrong? Or is it that not all the courses are up on Workday yet?

Also, does anyone know where I can find a full tutorial/guidance for how to choose my course?

- Like do I just go browse all the available course and choice whatever I want and the ones my intended major requires?

- Or do I need to pick CAP / Arts One / Customised first (If I choose Arts One does it automatically picked 80% of my courses for me?);

- Do I need to pay tuition immediately after I submit my course registration?

- Will popular courses be done at a second or can I take my time?

Thanks in advance!

Is it just me or do anyone else gets this dichotomy of "cold vs warm" names?

Ok, hear me out. I have this intuitive, inexplicable dichotomy of "cold vs warm" for names' vibe.

- "Cold names" are the ones I associate with more reserved, introverted people with a strong aura. These names are typically chic, sleek, or sharp, or really dainty, like Esther, Vera, Celeste, Sage, and Selene.

- "Warm names" are the ones I associate with down-to-earth, friendly, outgoing people. These names usually feel bright and soft and...warm, like Julia, Molly, Daphne, Eliza, and Hannah.

If anyone gets me, all V names feel cold(eg Vera Violet Viola Victoria Vanessa), and all J names feel warm(eg Julia Josephine Jade Jasmine). Can you think of any exceptions?

Incoming freshman, can I still choose Arts One or CAP if Im get the OIS award

Hello people, im a soon-to-be UBC student.

I received the OIS award, which required me to "Maintain registration in a minimum of 24.0 percentage-graded credits in your first-year Winter Session".

However, as I read through the "First-Year Study Options", it says that Arts One and CAP both will only give 18 credits??? So does it mean I can only go with the Custom timetable (which will give 30 credits)?

Idk if this is a stupid question to ask, but thanks in advance:)
