How realistic is occasional PED use with long periods completely off?

I'm 32 male, my goal isn't to stay on PEDs year round. I'm wondering whether they can be used occasionally to speed up progress, then come off and spend most of the time training without them.

Basically:

  • Run a relatively mild cycle
  • Come off, PCT if appropriate, and recover
  • Continue training completely off PEDs
  • Only consider another cycle much later if hormones and bloodwork are back to baseline
  • Avoid reaching a point where I need to stay on permanently just to maintain my physique

My main question is: how much of the extra muscle can realistically be maintained during long periods off, assuming natural hormone production recovers and training/diet stay consistent?

Tirzepatide is partly what made me think about this. It helped me stick to my diet and finally get lean enough to see my abs. Now that I've reached that goal, I'm tapering off and plan to continue without it.

Obviously steroids/SARMs work very differently, but I'm wondering if the same general idea can apply: use something temporarily to accelerate progress, then stop and continue without it.

Especially interested in hearing from people who have actually followed this kind of approach for several years rather than staying on year round.
