Thoughts on Pride and Prejudice (2005)?
After I had read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (amazing, btw), I was so so excited to watch the 2005 movie because I had witnessed all of the hype around it on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, etc. For example, the famous Mr Darcy hand flex 😩
But to my surprise, I did not enjoy the movie all that much! I can hardly explain it but the plot felt empty when you’ve already read the book, you can spot all of the changes made that aren’t accurate to the book. And I don’t mind this most times I watch movies adapted from books yet this one just seemed to irk me.
Also the plot was SO rushed, and I get it, trying to fit a whole novel in a two hour movie would be difficult, but a lot of the time important characters were just thrown in to the scenes. Character development wasn’t there neither was the development of plot. I hardly sensed the chemistry that I did in the book between Mr Darcy and Elizabeth. Don’t even get me started on how quickly their relationship progressed.
And there are so many more reasons but I won’t bore you with them.
I feel as though if I had watched the movie without having read the book beforehand, I would have had a better experience, honestly.
Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone else had similar or opposing views to share on the movie?
