Seeking advice: Industry career paths for a future PhD in Population Genetics
Hi everyone,
I recently graduated with a degree in Genetics and a minor in Bioinformatics. I am currently working as a QC Lab Technician at a biotech company, and I will soon be starting a rotational PhD program where I hope to focus on population genetics.
I have been told that the computational and analytical skills gained from studying population genetics are highly transferable to various roles in the field. However, I am still trying to get a clearer picture of how genetics as a whole is applied within the industry.
Could those of you currently working in industry share some insights on what kinds of career paths and job roles are typically available to someone with a PhD in genetics? I am particularly interested in knowing which roles value a population genetics or computational biology background.
Any advice on navigating the job market or how to best prepare for industry roles during my PhD would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time and insights!
