Mom sleeping a lot

My elderly mom(75) suffered a stroke and heart attack in early May and is currently on hospice care. She has been sleeping more than usual the last two days which is very concerning. I’ll wake her up and then she dozes back off within a minute. All her vitals look good. Is this normal?

I think I made the wrong choice

My mom,75, suffered a heart attack and stroke back in May. She spent a month and a half in the hospital and was recently discharged from rehab. She made no progress in rehab because they didn’t work with her enough while she was awake .They recommended that hospice was the best choice based on her medical conditions. They said she would get more help and free medicine /medical equipment. She is bedridden but very healthy physically. She’s a very healthy weight and hasn’t lost any since this all happened. She has a strong will to live and get better. That’s why I feel home health is a better option for her. The nurse and aide have been great but we need more for my mom. Has anyone had a similar experience? All opinions are welcome.

Don’t know what to do

My mom, 75, was recently discharged from rehab and has home hospice care. She suffered a stroke and heart attack and is bedridden. The social worker thought home hospice care would be better than home health care based on her several medical conditions.I’m a female (38) and her only child. I only have help from my older male cousins. I need help with changing her diaper because she isn’t a lightweight. She often poops more while we’re cleaning her. They get frustrated with me because they don’t think that I’m being fast enough because she’s in an uncomfortable position. I’m just trying to wipe until she’s clean. Maybe I do need to work on my cleaning technique, but I don’t need to yelled at, especially in front of her. This makes me feel incredibly small and like a child. I’ve watched the nurses in rehab do it all by themselves and wish I could do it to. Does anyone have any tips? Advice? I need help from females because it would make my mom more comfortable. Also, I don’t know how much longer I can take this living situation if I’m going to constantly be scolded every day.

Hospice care in living room

My mom is getting discharged from rehab to in home hospice care. My relatives think setting up space in the living room would be easier than a bedroom right now. I’m just concerned about her getting proper rest and privacy. Everybody has to go through the living room to enter and exit the house. Has anyone done this? How has it worked for you/your loved one?

Rehab transfer

My mom who suffered a stroke in May was discharged from the hospital on Friday evening and transferred to a rehab facility. I’m not happy with the quality of care here. It’s a 2.3 star facility, very outdated and dirty. They are late giving her meds and feedings, don’t change bedding regularly or give a baths regularly. She has to share a room with a woman who is loud and keeps the tv volume high. Two tvs are going making it hard for my mom to watch hers. She really got better quality care at the hospital. My mom started thriving right before she came here. She was talking more, upbeat and more alert. Now she’s more quiet, sad and is sleeping more. I feel like I failed her bringing her here. I want to try and get her transferred to another facility that better meets her needs. I hate leaving her there at night. Has anyone had any experience with this? If so, what steps did you take? I reached out to her primary physician’s office and told them the situation. I’m hoping to get a preauthorization from my a top notch rehab facility.

Advice

When your loved one was hospitalized for their stroke, what did you do to pass the time while they sleep? I try to avoid waking my mom up all the time, but sometimes I can’t help it. I know she needs the rest, though. I also don’t know what to say to her sometimes. I’m usually here at the hospital for about 12 hours a day.

Milkshakes

My mom is recovering from a major hemorrhage stroke/heart attack. A few days ago a cousin of mine brought a strawberry milkshake form Sonic for her to eat in a few spoonfuls. How harmful is this for her? She also fully ate puréed berries, pudding and a few sips of a nutritional shake that day.

I’m afraid I harmed my mom

My mom has been hospitalized for a month for a brain aneurysm/ heart attack. Two nights ago the nurse came to give her heart medication. She brought a cup of water apple sauce. I stupidly assumed she crushed the pill in the apple sauce and gave her plain water to wash it down. After the nurse left my mom frowned up because I’m assuming she couldn’t stand the taste of the medication. I gave her the cup of water to take a small sip or two. I found out that it obviously wasn’t plain water and instead diluted water with the heart medication. I felt so incredibly stupid. Now my mom has been sleeping more and when she is awake she’s not talking. I feel like I really harmed her. I love her so much. We’ve always been very close . I don’t think I can live with myself knowing I made this mistake that’s probably affecting her health.

I feel bad

My mom (75) suffered a brain aneurysm last month and has been hospitalized since. She has some real good days where she is alert and talks quite a bit and days where she is really tired and sleepy. I’m her only child and usually with her from 7:30PMish-to 9:00ish at night. I often wonder still if my presence is overwhelming for her. She was still awake after 11:00PM last night. I was going to spend the night with her but changed my mind. I didn’t want to keep her awake all night. I told her I would be back in the morning and that I loved her. She told me that she loves me too. I came back at almost 8:00AM this morning and she’s been sleeping this whole time. I’ve tried waking her up several times but she just drifts back off to sleep. I wonder if it’s because she’s upset I left or if it’s because of lack of energy or what. Has anyone been through this? This is all new to me.
