Fry station driving me crazy

Curious what other stores are doing and if you’ve experienced the same thing. Recently we changed our policy on mobile orders and delivery to cook the fries BEFORE the customer/driver arrives. That way, the order is ready and people don’t have to wait anymore. If the fries sit on the heated shelf for more than 15 minutes you’re supposed to toss them and make new. Before this we would always get complaints and bad reviews about wait time for pickups and angry delivery drivers so part of me was glad for the change. But now we constantly get complaints about poor quality fries, ”undercooked”, cold or soggy fries. Unfortunately the reality is with hand cut potatos free of any chemicals or preservatives they’re only really good if served right away. They go bad so fast. As a shift leader who works fries almost every day this is driving me insane. It’s so frustrating when a customer shows up 20 minutes after the promised time for their order then complains about the fries not being the freshest. I think the point of carry out is to save time in the restaurant and avoid waiting but the trade off is your food might sit for a little bit and people don’t seem to understand that we’re not a fast food restauran. When I get those orders that sit for around 15 minutes (also it‘s not really possible to keep track of all the times if it’s busy) I’m in a tough spot, do I serve the 15 minute old fries and risk a complaint? Or do I make new fries. But then I get the other problem “What? my orders not ready? How? I ordered 30 minutes ago” I just don‘t have much sympathy for these people. If you simply showed up at least somewhat close to the time your order was promised to be ready the fries will be great. My GM is pissed and I just don’t know what to do.

Worst ride ever?

Get a decent paying offer for a pretty short ride from a nice suburb on the outskirts of town to a motel 6. I’m thinking this‘ll be a nice easy trip.

I arrive for pickup outside a nice house. 3 minute go by and she’s texting me asking where I am. Finally she finds me and sticks her head through my side window. She‘s exasperated about something and rambling about her brother kicking her out or something. I brush it off, whatever, sounds like she’s having a bad day but can you please just get in and let’s go.

Then she starts loading piles of food into the car. Like trays of watermelon, bags of chips etc, and a whole ass roasted chicken loosely covered with foil on a platter directly on my backseat. I’m thinking family cook out gone wrong and shes taking all the food… I guess? I’m pretty pissed at this point but I was brand new to Lyft at the time and she was promising a tip.

Anyways she wants to sit up front and from the moment we leave I realize she’s hammered. Starts rambling about her criminal activity all while yelling at me with direction. Talking about running drugs, having her daughter smuggle drugs, something to the effect of if I call the cops on her they’ll never find her. She’s also got booze in her Pepsi bottle and offers some to me. Hindsight is 20/20 and I know I should’ve kicked her out but tbh I was kinda scared of her and she had all this fucking food in the back so I continue.

We arrive at the most ghetto run down shitty motel 6 I’ve ever seen and there’s all these shady people hanging around eyeballing us. She smeared lipstick all over my interior somehow. Finally got her out with all the food and got tf out of there. She did give me like a $10 bill or something but holy fuck was that bad.

New Shift Leader

Just became a shift leader. Looking for some advice! Best ways to remember temps? How can you tell if you’re going to run out of a certain prep? How do you keep things running smoothly at all times? How to coordinate breaks and making sure everyone’s happy.

How to get though first day

holy shit this is so hard. It’s only been 3 hours and I’ve literally been rummaging through my entire house and car searching for a pouch. Fighting every cell in my body to not go buy some. The cravings come in intense waves. My gums are literally craving the feeling of the pouch I don’t know how to explain it but it’s like my gums are withdrawing too and they crave it. My brain is playing tricks and is foggy. I’m so irritiable. But in a way I actually physically feel Better. I don’t know how I’ll get through the next few days.
