I visited just the other week there. I had read that Català was spoken on the island and so learned a few phrases and whenever I was interacting with people, I learned what I wanted to say beforehand, in Català.

However, I found that people mostly spoke in Castilian. Even when I used bon dia and adéu, the reply was usually "adiós".

One woman working in Repsol actually corrected me when I said "numero set, si us plau", and she said "siete", a little curtly.

I'm very confused now. Did I spend the week there pissing people off, or what?

These eclipse 'ZOOs'?

I'm reading that the Balearic government is setting up designated viewing areas on Mallorca.

However, they seem to be in areas from where you will not be able to see the total eclipse. Helpful!

This might be a stupid question but these things aren't mandatory are they? I know they're concerned about chavvy tourists with disposable barbecues destroying Serra de Tramuntana and I've read that they'll be enforcing no-go areas.

Three lives saved today

Found these three in the shade beside a tree, barely moving. All three had a good drink of sugar water and buzzed off. Such a great feeling to help these ladies.

I wasn't sure the little one was going to make it. She had two separate drinks in the space of 20 minutes. I loved watching her become more active, give her wings a test buzz, and when she flew off home I actually cheered.

I've used the beevive kit about a dozen times now. Such a handy thing to carry around on your keys.

Post office commission

So I was sending a couple of old expired passports back separately and wanted to send them tracked 48h. The guy behind the counter offered me recorded signed for, but said they can't do tracked 48 for letters.

I ended up paying for special delivery, almost £20. Later I get home and check the website and they don't do it for small letters but absolutely can send a large letter using tracked 48, which would've cost me about £13 less.

My question is, am I right in thinking there's nothing stopping me paying the postage for a larger letter, even if it was a small one. And could they have a financial motive for not telling me about that option so I'd pay more for special delivery?

I can't imagine it'd be a huge amount of money they'd be making, so before I go back and moan at them I want to make sure I'm not being paranoid here.

Ta.

I've the best kids in the 'verse

It's Father's Day in the UK and they drew this in my card.

At the top it says "to the best dad in this land".

I'm so proud of my little Browncoats.

Equivalent of "Bravo"?

Madainn mhath, a h-uile duine. Tha Gàidhlig beagan agam.

I am going to see Julie Fowlis tonight and would like to shout something in Gàidhlig at the end of the gig.

I'm thinking of something similar to Bravo, or Brava in this case. What would be the usual thing to say at the end of a great performance?

Mòran taing.

Councils have been sending out polling cards stating you need photo ID. This is wrong. It's Westminster general elections only.

Go and vote. You don't need a polling card either as long as you're registered to vote.
