Subreddit for Posties

I wish we had a subreddit focused around RM Posties, RM staff etc.

This subreddit is just a complaint and customer services forum. Constant posts from people asking where a parcel is 5 minutes after it's been posted.

And the awesome folks who reply to every one of these silly posts, and more complicated issues, aren't even getting paid! They are doing this off their own backs.

Would love somewhere for Posties to discuss stuff and don't even think about suggesting "Robin". That's a forum for management to aggressively brown nose each other and beg for praise.

Struggling in this heat and don't know what to do

i'm a postie been doing this for almost a year now but i am really struggling this week, i feel like i'm just getting cooked alive on top of being directed to clear some of the double and triple mail that has built up, i like this job and care about it but I just feel its not worth it when it's this hot I don't feel safe i feel sick, tired.

Just feel totally worthless to be honest, the round that i'm covering the walkers side has a loop that is an hour and a half long with little shade and very steep inclines. you can bring a big bottle of water with you but adding the weight to the bag on top of the mail and parcels makes it kind of counter productive.

What can i do? after today i just don't really want to put myself though that i feel i'm putting myself at risk, and for what?. I have the sun hat i soak it in water big sunglasses, expensive sun cream but its not enough really. I just feel absolutely cooked.

Anyone out there currently off sick? what can i do but also not get fired?.

Imo we should not be working in this heat.

Journalist covering working conditions of postmen during the heatwaves

Hey there!

I am a student and freelance investigative journalist and am doing my master's degree university project at City, University of London looking into the working conditions of postmen and couriers during the current heatwaves.

I get the sense from looking at this sub that experiences haven't been great. I think many people would be outraged to hear that vital frontline workers are basically being told to get on with it, with apparently little safety protections in place.

To the posties on this sub, if you think this at all sounds worthwhile, it would be really useful to hear your experiences in detail. Please get in touch by dropping me a message or an email at danieltester.dt@protonmail.com . Can be anonymous of course.

Delivery times today? [URGENT]

Hello, I have a very important package with sensitive contents on the way, and it's of utmost importance that it arrives today. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a tracking number, but I was assured by the vendor that it was Special Delivery so it shall be here soon. I am going to go and track him down to retrieve the package myself. Is there a van tracker so I can see exactly where the postman is? Could it be possible that customs have confiscated my legal package and how would I know if this was the case? Do I need to run? Am I in danger? Will I be okay? Thanks, Reddit!

Any good?

Thinking or ordering this. Just want to check this kind of box isn't a postie's nightmare first.

Eye test and glasses

So I read somewhere that royal mail did provide funding towards eye tests and glasses but it was an old post from about 10 years ago, does anyone know if that's still a thing?

While I don't actually need them for my driving duty as I am long sighted, it'd be nice to not have to pay for them if RM will pay

I'll ask manager tomorrow anyway but I thought it might be good to have something on here if it's still a thing

Question: my package has been stopped as “leaving the UK” for the past week now

I’ve ordered from this company before and I’ve never had a package be stopped for this long, and I don’t even know if it’s stopped as I said it says “leaving the uk” so I have no idea what’s happening really. Has anyone else ever had this and is this normal?

How could a tee shirt and 2 pairs of shorts be non-compliant?

Hi everyone looking for some help to understand this please… I ordered a teeshirt and 2 pairs of shorts from an American online store and have had the following message: Non-compliant item - Returned to sender. Are they really sending my clothes back? How could they be non-compliant?

Item returned to sender - will tracking be updated?

Long story short, I had to refuse delivery of an item to get it returned to sender. I understand that Royal Mail then hold it for about 3 weeks before it actually gets sent back.

I was wondering if the tracking number I originally had for the item would be updated to show it got returned to the sender successfully? The company said I wouldn't get a refund until they had it, but the tracking info hasn't updated since 26th May so I'm not sure what's happened to it.

Any advice for how I can follow up on this as well? Lots of the FAQs on RoyalMail seem to be directed at online shopping returns rather than 'returned to sender' situations.

Thanks in advance - you guys do a great job!

12:59 ‘We tried to deliver but you weren’t in’ - special delivery before 1pm next

Ordered something with Special Delivery Guaranteed before 1pm and at 12:59 I get a notification that they tried to deliver but I wasn’t in…

- I have cameras
- I had the front windows open so I could listen for the van

If you’re going to lie about missing your 13:00 cut-off then surely don’t pick 12:59… totally unconvincing

Phoned the Royal Mail to complain and got told an email was being sent to the local DO depot manager… what are possible next steps?

The call handler mentioned that the driver might be out on their round until 7ish and the depot manager could tell them to come back across and make sure it’s done today… but that feels unlikely?

Thanks in advance

Does debit card not work for proof of ID?

I got a parcel delivered to a nearby Royal Mail collection in a corner shop, but they refused to give me the package and said I need either a passport or driving license, not a debit card. I have neither a passport nor a driving license so I am unsure what to do.

Yodel left my small parcel behind a plant pot and my Royal Mail postman (my ex) moved it to a neighbour with no calling card. Is this normal practice?

I received a notification from Yodel to say my parcel had been delivered to my safe place but the parcel was not there. A photo was not included so I wasn't sure it was actually left by my door, so I spent a long time looking for it around my neighbours doorsteps.

Is it allowed for Royal Mail staff to move parcels delivered by another courier?

And even if they thought it was unsafe, is it normal not to leave a note?

Does the personal history change things, or do the same rules apply?

Cwu rep.

What course of action would you take to deal with a depot rep that is causing issues for other members of staff?

For example - harassing certain colleagues when they use the cutting off procedure. Pushing staff to work faster and questioning said colleagues performance when they can't complete a delivery.

Pressing depot managers to discipline staff for not being able to complete excessive workloads. Management stating they have no justification for issuing any form of disciplinary but rep insisting they do so.

Causing stress to other colleagues to the point where they have walked out of the building and gone home.

Surely a office rep is in place to protect colleagues - not actively seek to get them dismissed? When they have done nothing wrong. Am I going mad?

Post office commission

So I was sending a couple of old expired passports back separately and wanted to send them tracked 48h. The guy behind the counter offered me recorded signed for, but said they can't do tracked 48 for letters.

I ended up paying for special delivery, almost £20. Later I get home and check the website and they don't do it for small letters but absolutely can send a large letter using tracked 48, which would've cost me about £13 less.

My question is, am I right in thinking there's nothing stopping me paying the postage for a larger letter, even if it was a small one. And could they have a financial motive for not telling me about that option so I'd pay more for special delivery?

I can't imagine it'd be a huge amount of money they'd be making, so before I go back and moan at them I want to make sure I'm not being paranoid here.

Ta.

How many stamps do I need?

Hello! I am prepping to ship a bunch of my own comics (250g including parcel) and I've bought a bunch of Second class large letter stamps.

Ive just now seen these only cover up to 100g.

How many stamps do i need? I've looked online and been told anything from 1-4 and I'm sick of the AI overviews.

Thanks!
