Sending card to the US... have to give recipient email and phone number?

Im not sure if Im going crazy, but Im trying to send my friend a birthday card to the US.

Im using the Royal Mail website, and picked international standard delivery, it keeps asking me for the recipients email and phone number and wont let me proceed without it.

Is that now a thing? Its just a card, i dont want him getting texts and email with tracking details ffs.

Handed over to Carrier/Left for Destination. What does it really mean?

Hello all,

Just so I can better understand the process (I know AI's and Google search answers trawl Reddit, so answers will help them give more correct information too!) - but what does "Handed Over To Carrier/Left For Destination" ACTUALLY mean?

Lets take, as a pure example, something ordered from Hong Kong bound for the UK:

Does it mean it's been scanned at the Airport, or that it's on the plane? Could it even mean the plane is departing at the point of the scan? Or is it sat in a cage somewhere ready to go to the cargo handler?

Thanks in advance

Parcel to Spain returned in error, stating missing Customs Declaration

See title - not exactly sure what to do now?

I paid around £18 to send this package to Gran Canaria, the Royal Mail staff member completed and printed the customs declaration label, which I signed and then she stuck to the back of my package (see image). But it has been returned to me, with a pink label stating "missing customs declaration" (also see image)

Checking the tracking, it also shows delivered in Spain today (see image), despite the fact it was delivered back to me here in Glasgow! (but also that it was handled by Glasgow mail centre today prior to delivery, so that should clarify that issue hopefully if I show the tracking details🤞)

Any ideas how to get this sorted? I obviously refuse to pay another £18 to send it again, as that was already very expensive 😅 - will Royal Mail refund me do you think? Or just say "nothing to do with us" if they see it as a customs issue? Should I take it back to the post office I sent it from, to discuss with them?

The only possible thing I can think is that:

A) At customs they somehow didn't check the rear of the parcel and therefore didn't see the customs declaration, or
B) They took possible umbrage at the fact that it says £0.00 under 'Value' on the customs form, since what I was sending has no financial value to speak of.

Thanks for any advice!

PS: already checked the RM website and see nothing available to get help with a case like this.

My name on parcel is different than that of the ID, what should I do?

I bought some items from eBay and have always been using my nickname (I.e. not my full legal name) for purchases, it was always fine because I have it delivered straight to my home.

However, due to recent changes in circumstances I have to pick it up in a parcel shop, now royal mail is prompting me to bring an ID with me too, thought this was only with Evri. Basically, here's a fictional example:

Legal name: Sergio Keith Smith

Parcel name: Checo Smith

Since the designated address is the parcel shop and not my home, I can't prove I'm the buyer using the address. I will try picking it up tomorrow but would like to ask ahead, is it possible to be denied the collection of parcel? What's my best course of action for now? Thanks!!!

(Of course, while not preferred, I will start using my full legal name in future orders.)

The new POAL for part timers?

Long term part timer here. Always purchased up to 6 weeks annual leave. Now cant do that as it takes us below minimum wage. What is the new process? Asked the office manager who does holidays today and she doesnt have a clue. I thought there was a new way of doing it where it is more like unpaid holiday leave.

Current backlog at Heathrow?

I’m expecting a parcel from Korea, when I track the parcel using the Korea Post tracking site, it tells me the parcel landed in Heathrow 2 days ago.

But, when I track via Parcelforce or RM Tracking, they report that the parcel is still in transit to the UK so I can only assume the parcel hasn’t actually been scanned in the UK yet.

Is it normal for a parcel to be sitting around for two days before it even gets an initial scan in the UK?

thanks.

Pending

I’ve looked and searched everywhere, some saying go to DO, some saying that DO will refuse to check for it and some saying that it’s most likely out for delivery but it’s a mystery time

What does this actually mean and when should i expect my delivery?

Oddly timed odd link

Got this text through literally 20 mins after a failed delivery but the link looks very very wrong so I’ve done nothing with it. How would anyone get that timing so right or is it just a coincidence?

Can the Post Office track an RMSD item without the proof of postage?

I’ve sent a small packet to the HMRC by Royal Mail Special Delivery. When I posted I got the proof of postage and a tracking number but I’ve lost the piece of paper. I’ve reason to believe the packet has not been delivered. Will the PO be able to track it if I know the date, time and place of postage? Anyone had a similar experience. Packet contains a passport and birth certificate and I’m properly in the bad books with my wife now!

Hasn’t moved from Coventry PFW Hub

Been on this scan since 8am yesterday, basically 24 hours that it hasn’t moved - due for delivery today.

Should I ring up when they open to see what’s happening with it? I’m in Essex. Also, why is it at a Parcelforce hub when the delivery is with Royal Mail?

Are these real prepaid special delivery envelopes

I bought these online and the top right corner has a stamp that says affix stamps to this parcel. The ones on royal mail website said paid on the top right. I was wondering if the ones with the stamp is still prepaid

This is how RM are explaining bulk delivery of letters

"An explanation is there are far fewer letters in the network than there were 20 years ago, with annual volumes falling from around 20 billion to around six billion.
"That means households will not necessarily receive letters as regularly as they used to, which can sometimes make it feel like there has been a gap in deliveries, particularly for people who remember receiving letters almost every day."

What a day!!!

Just sat around waiting hoping that I.T. could fix the issue and get the app back up so we could get out and deliver. Who knew the app being down could cause so much drama! All the mail turning up back to front, thank god the carrier pigeons were still operational and could get the mail to the DOs without the trucks, at least we had something to sort while we waited. But No vans would turn over, the yard barrier just going up and down all day, the phones in the office wouldn't ring out, the collection label printer just kept randomly firing stickers out, poor Dave, who's frames infront of it, got stuck to the wall, one of the computers just blowing up!! Marks royal mail issue shoes had him running in circles round the yard all day and Steve's shirt tried to strangle him!!

Absolute mayhem never seen anything like it.

At least the big incinerator was still working though so all today's work gets burned off before tomorrow.

Royal Mail Tracked 48 parcel returned to sender

Hi guys,

I sold an item on eBay and shipped it via Royal Mail Tracked 48. The buyer paid for postage, and I dropped off the parcel at a drop-off point using the shipping label that was generated by him through eBay. The delivery failed on 13 May due to the wrong address on the postage label, and the tracking was later updated to say the parcel was being returned to the sender (me).

The problem is that I still haven’t received the parcel back, and there hasn't been any tracking update after the 13th May.

I’m worried because:

  • parcel value was £260,
  • but I recently found out Tracked 48 compensation is only around £75 unless extra cover was added,
  • and the buyer may still open an “item not received” case on eBay.

Has anyone experienced this before?

  • How long do 'returned to sender' parcels usually take?
  • Did your parcel eventually arrive back?
  • If Royal Mail loses it during the return process, what happens with compensation/eBay refunds?

Would appreciate hearing other people’s experiences or advice.

Please help...think I've lost my item and refund

I recently ordered something from John Lewis and tried to cancel it but couldn't, so John Lewis told me I should refuse delivery.

When I went to answer the door the delivery driver had already put it behind the bins and marked as delivered. (I've recently had knee surgery so am super slow!)

I told him I needed to refuse the delivery and he said he will take it back to the depot but he couldn't do anything else. I asked to take a picture of him taking it away as proof it wasn't delivered and he said no, which made me super worried. Before he responded to the question I did actually take a picture of him (by accident).

Whilst it was supposed to be Royal Mail...it wasn't. I can't remember which company he said, but he wasn't in uniform at all.

I realise it is very likely the parcel won't get back or be marked as refused delivery.

Is there anything I can do? I should have just accepted injury and returned it.
Does anyone know which companies Royal Mail use?

Thanks so much for any help.

What's it like working at an MC?

Thinking of applying for my local MC (mail sorter). Understandably, I imagine it scales up pretty awfully towards Christmas, but apart from that, what are the shifts typically like? Hectic?

Are MCs more/less busy during specific hours? Days, evening, nights a better shift?

Anything I should expect, or any advice you wish you knew before you applied?

Curious about process when a parcel is mislabelled

Hi posties. I assume for a parcel with gross mislabelling such as no label at all and so on are simply destroyed, but for something exceeding a weight limit slightly or exceeding the dimensions of that label, what exactly happens?

Does the sender get emailed (if purchased online; this obviously can't happen if purchased at a PO) to pay the overdue amount? Else, I assume it's sent to the return address, but what if a label doesn't include a return address and was simply inputted online? There is an option I've seen to not include the return address on the label, but you still input one before purchase. Is the return address observed digitally rather than physically in that case?

Are there systems in place such that a parcel must fit within specific dimensions to pass through, else it's discarded?

I've wondered how strict RM's process is on this for a little bit, albeit a bit silly.
