Was working today and nicked a parked cars rear light. It was a tiny culdesac with cars parked in the turning area. It was either reverse on a main road or try what I think was like a 20 point turn so I went with the latter. I did check for damage and it was tiny buffer damage to the van which was nothing compared to what it’s been through, and the cars rear light(No crack just a mark) . Should I come clean or just leave it? The car was a pretty old focus but still am quite conflicted

Been going steady with this girl for around 6 months and found out she’s disgusting and lazy. Shes 24 unemployed (not looking for work) and her parents send her money overseas for rent bills ect. She always wants me to take her out which was fine during the “honeymoon phase” but after a while asking to go out in the middle of the week it got tedious, and the last straw was her asking me to pay for her nails and top up her phone credit. I’ve distanced myself but don’t know how to break it to her.

Any offices rolled out the new 739 cards yet. Our DO rolled then out last week and it looks like another waste of money for Royal Mail. Customers coming to the DO to collect their parcel that hasn’t been booked in yet because the new cards don’t mention if it was a second or first attempt. Still have to type in the postcode on your pda for attempted deliveries and safe place. And it’s all online now so they only cater to people who use the app. I reckon they’re actually less efficient then the older 739 cards yet

What is it Royal Mail managers actually do? Been covering for our PHG this week and been shocked with the indoor life, once all the posties are out the door my manager sits in her office watching some sort of show or has a chat with the collections manager and all they do is slag off their workers and the company, and talk about their lovely bonuses too. She walks around the DO with her teams meeting on speaker whilst on mute. It seems like an easy job for the money they get. All the old boys in my office say “A Royal Mail manager is just a failed postie”

So I’m a new start on a 37 hour contract obviously without paid breaks my hours are from 7:30-3:30 but I don’t understand how the unpaid breaks work. Typically before I go out on my walk if I have time I’ll sit at my frame and eat my breakfast and also take a little break on the last bit of my duty. However when I get back my manager always says the earliest anyone can scan out without messing up the SISO is 2:45 so I’m usually out the door by 2:50. I was wondering how the unpaid breaks hours work since I have 160.53 hours worked on my payslip.

Would any posties like to let me know when this supposed summertime workload drop off is coming. Been at RM since November, and the biggest lie I’ve been told is that the “the packets will drop off come summer” yet I’m still walking around with an over capacity HCT and having to do bag drops. Even the senior guys in my office are saying they’ve never had a summer this heavy before.

Any posties especially HCT walkers notice “packets” getting bigger in size? It’s an awkward one because the relatively big light ones my driver will laugh if I try giving it to them, but they also just take up all the space in my bag making doing my loops unnecessarily inconvenient. Been double bagging it recently which works, even though I feel like a literal pack mule. Also the limited space they take up in your trolley too is just annoying. Feel like I’m playing jenga trying to fit everything in.

Any posties been told about a drug and drink test this week. Manager went around talking about it today, didn’t know they even did tests at Royal Mail

Any posties been absolutely knackered recently? I don’t know if it’s because of the the heat but the past couple weeks I’ve had no energy or motivation after work. It’s literally get home, jump in the shower, eat and get in bed and that’s if there’s nothing to do around the house. I’m not trying to complain because ik physicality is the focal point of the job but these past weeks have ran me into the ground

It’s only June and the heat waves are getting ridiculous, what are the chances of RM or the union pulling their hands out of their arses and actually make some sort of reasonable adjustments instead of come in early. I’m all for a hard days work and all but this week has been horrid not only for posties but bus drivers and other outdoor labourers too. Had to cut off today called my manager at 1 she already fucked off absolute joke of a company and union at that, 15 tracked all scanned as delivery not attempted don’t care anymore.

Any posties now the procedure for a failed special. Had a special I completely forgot about in my bundle and failed by around 8 minutes to be exact. Customer was completely fine about it but obviously Royal Mail take their specials really seriously. Completely out of character for me usually I’m ontop of my reg but I guess the heat got to me today. Should I prepare for a bollocking from my manager tommorow?

Any posties work in London to get the extra London pay. Literally everyone in my office lives just outside of London and travels about an hour to get to work. My DO is in zone 4 in the north of London so there’s cheaper areas to live if you travel abit. I was looking at the pay out of London and it’s literally minimum wage, it’s actually laughably underpaid for the new contracts.

Manager in my office basically “manipulating” new starters to do stuff they’re not comfortable with. Me for starters only started in November already been moved to the cage with around 2 days training, kind of learning as I go, mistakes flagging up on the system ect but I’m getting it now. And overheard her talking to a new start literally 2 weeks in getting put on the hardest firms drive in the office to cover with only 3 days of training this week. Managers reason for putting him on it is “he works well under pressure” he ain’t even been in our DO a month. No wonder us newbies drop like flies

Any posties know when the pay increase and overtime cut for new entrants will take place from, and also how worse off will I be for working an extra weeks overtime as a new entrant. I had a nice little routine going where I would cover for our PHG over my rest week and make a decent amount extra but now with the OT rate going it doesn’t seem as desirable

Postie for only 7 months here and I’m disgusted with how to union operates at Royal Mail. Had an ex union rep for 40 years help me get this job after I dropped out of uni, and the first thing he told me was sign up to the union and have a chat with your rep when you join. 7 months in and I’m appalled at how corrupt our rep is. When it comes to my manager making comments on regrettably hiring a new guy because of his dyslexia or literally saying “ this job isn’t for everyone” to the only female postie in our office, all my rep has to say about it is “I’ll speak to her” and still nothing. I was PHG last week and it opened my eyes the relationship my rep and manager have like you scratch my back I scratch yours. The laughing the jokes, coming in early to chill in her office when you have new guys finishing at half 6 because they don’t know any better. No wonder they leave. I’ve seen it all when I was PHG makes me sick. My mate used to tell me how he would iron a manager out if they stepped out of line, I’m yet to see that in my DO, completely spineless.

Any tips on trying to stay cool on Tuesday and the upcoming months absolutely dreading going in tomorrow. If I could go out on my round shirtless and with a speedo on I would.

Any posties know good shirt materials for summertime. Been thinking about getting some because those polos we get from Royal Mail are sweat boxes, especially with the change in weather we’re getting next week.

So I’ve been covering in the cage for our usual phg when he’s on his rest week or annual leave. But today my manager told me she wants to get rid of him. I already explicitly told my manager I don’t mind covering but I don’t want to be indoors permanently. She smiled and said I’ll get you trained up properly. I tried explaining to her that’s not the point but it’s like talking to a brick wall, spoke to my union rep too absolutely corrupt to the core. I’m not too sure what else to do, I applied to be a postman not whatever a phg is

Got a mate who used to live in the area I deliver in, she’s moved now but didn’t order a redirection. Her regular postie came up to me today with a few letters addressed to her old address on his walk. Fortunately she also works in a school also covered by my delivery office. The postie who covers the school said that he’d be able to deliver those letters to the school instead. Is this a serious problem since she’s not paying for a redirection but still getting the service since I’m doing a favour for a friend? The other 2 posties were happy to help and said as long as my manger doesn’t know it will be fine.

Anyone know how much royal mail wastes on agency staff these days. I remember a few in my DO during Christmas wrote a van off and got caught dumping letters in the pilar box. It just seems like a money dump to me especially with the hourly rate theyre on, and I don’t blame the agency guys come for a quick quid so why should you do the job properly
