Been with Royal Mail exactly 1 year today as a postperson. I’d really enjoyed it until the last few months with a big change in management. For the past month or so I keep getting put on DPR. At the start it kept happening j was a spare part and being sent out with mail on failing walks which I was more than happy to do. I like being an actual postie, I do rounds that do their own bulk and had no problem with this. But the more i do DPR, even on the same route, i just cannae stand it. Normal routes, 90-100 drops/items within a postcode. But im shit. I’m not getting faster and don’t really have the intention to do any faster. Sometimes i finish late, sometimes just on time, sometimes half an hour early. But most of the others I know go to other routes and help them out. I had 20 taken off me off a 93 drop route and still finished ON TIME. I have no intention of bombing down residential roads and throwing parcels on the doorstep. Parking the van anywhere. I’m sure that would suit them right down to the ground but im not doing it. I’m already doing those things to some extent anyway which i dont wanna be doing. I get that this basically is what i signed up to as i know my duties can change as and when but it’s just a rant.

Yesterday i came in after time off sick to find out i was on DPR which manager didn’t tell me about in prior correspondence because they called me after i went back home asking where I was because he apparently had no idea i was on DPR. Asked if i was able to come in and then 15 mins later rang back saying don’t bother. Sometimes this happens coz next to my name on the (reserve section) rota it will say DPR for a day but then on a rounds section it will say i’m covering. Obviously i don’t check every round to see if im covering any coz it should be on my name. It’s a real joke because it’s making a job that made me quite happy unnecessarily stressful which is having an effect on my mental and physical health. Because of a recovering undiagnosed issue caused absences i’m already on the final warning, next step is consideration of dismissal.

Things are crap for me here atm and i’ve been applying for factory work to do for 6 months or something just to get some better money and look for something nicer perhaps. I’d like to make this work but crap money, crap management, too little hours, stupid politics and just general shivery.

This is gonna sound mad maybe but i currently have a 30 hour contract with Royal Mail at my local DO as a “reserve”. Angard are looking for night shift mail sorters at another site local to me. Because of the lack of consistency with overtime where i am now I’m thinking about applying for the night shift for extra money. It’d be a routine of sleeping in the afternoon/evening, do mail sorting night shift and then shortly after head to DO for postie job. As i said it might sound mad but my question is there anything in my contract that won’t allow this? Am i able to have a different role with angard while under my contract with royal mail and if i can is there a limit on hours i can do? Thanks for any help

Friend is living in shared house with a rat problem, landlord keeps coming to put traps down but that is it and it’s not doing anything. When confronted he just brushes it off and says the traps will sort it but it is still an issue. What would be the best thing to do to try and get more action taken? I have suggested writing an email that CC’s in the other 4 tenants, the landlord and estate agents (and maybe local MP? just because..) Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you

Just retrieved my lost PDA to find a multitude of cars have had their way with it… Manager said hopefully it’s just a screen replacement and not much more was said. However, when i grabbed another PDA to sign in and consolidate/end vehicle shift, instead of it being where i left off it had completely reset. That tells me it’s more than just the screen. Is there likely to be punishment?
