Cortis without autotune is

For a group that’s supposedly rap focused, they haven't even figured out how to project their voices properly when rapping. I’m fluent in Korean, and I couldn’t make out a single word Martin and Juhoon said in their verses. They’re out here mumble rapping in 2026 while sounding out of breath for no reason. Seonghyeon's voice also sounds shaky like my 85 year old gramps, no exaggeration.

The choreography isn’t that demanding and they’re clearly not going all out. Yet they sound so busy catching their breath while rapping and practically sing-talking their way through the entire song. One phrase, they’re practically whispering, and the next, they’re at volume ten. Their breath control and rap delivery need work.

On a side note, this is my first time reading the full lyrics to this song. I thought YCC and REDRED had brainrot lyrics, but this takes the cake. Then again, who am I to say all this? They’re one of the most popular groups right now, and as you can see in the video, the fangirls are absolutely infatuated with them. I guess my music taste is just worlds apart from what’s trendy these days.

13 out of the Top 15 songs on Melon are Lim Young Woong right now

It’s just the hourly chart, and midnight is when fandom pushes are supposed to be at their peak but wtf is this lol

His new title track is obviously #1 on Melon, as well as Genie and Bugs, and all 10 songs from the album are sitting in the Top 13. Ahjumma fans have so much firepower it’s actually insane.

What’s crazy is that the GP outside of that specific demographic doesn’t even listen to or be remotely interested in his music. He just has such an absolute hold on all the middle aged women and grandmas across the country that it’s enough to push him straight to the top of the charts.

Kindergarteners chanting "LET US IN" for Katseye is frying me 😭

These children were rejected from getting into standing zone because there's an age limit of 16+. So these little kids are throwing tantrums, literally rioting and chanting to be let in lmfao

IVE is a top heavy group coasting on the success of their early career

They had an insane first two year run right off the bat in their debut in 2021 with four consecutive hits with I AM, After LIKE, LOVE DIVE, ELEVEN. In terms of TTs, no subsequent release came close to having the same kind of impact. Same for their b-sides. Their b-sides over the last four comebacks have been subpar.

As performers, they’re below average compared to their peers. When it comes to dancing, they’re easily near the bottom. Their movements lack sharpness, their lines are often all over the place, and they frequently aren’t in sync which makes everything look even worse considering their choreographies are also among the easiest of any 4th gen group.

During concerts, Yujin and Liz are the only ones you can consistently hear clearly. Yujin is a top tier performer, can't say the same for the rest. The rest are either lipsyncing or completely drowned out by the backing track. To me, they’re a group that has been coasting off their earlier success, with Wonyoung and Yujin’s individual popularity doing majority of the heavy lifting.

They’ve been finding success and charting well regardless of quality, but I think they really need to raise their game in several areas.

Lipsyncing to prerecorded vocals with handheld mics is ridiculous

This is from the K-World Dream Awards that happened yesterday. If you can't tell what's happening, Yunjin misses the cue and goes in late on the song. The first half of the clip is a fancam, and the second half is the broadcast version. they're put together as a comparison so people don’t start going, “THEY DIDN’T LIPSYNC IN THE FANCAMS!! ALL LIVE!!”

Prerecorded vocals suck and I’ll forever be against them, but I find it extra ridiculous when singers lipsync to them while using handheld mics. It looks so silly. Why can't they just sing?

Here's a real, non-exaggerated take: RESCENE's bandwagon domestic fans are outright insufferable

I wouldn't have written this post if I thought this was just a small subsegment of bad apples, but it isn’t. Literally over 90% of RESCENE's current fandom are bandwagoners who jumped on board just a few months ago. The group already started with a roughly 90% male fanbase, but now that demographic has been flooded by an influx of insufferable, toxic middle-aged "samchon" (uncle) fans. And how do I know they're all old dudes? As someone fluent in Korean, you can tell instantly just by their outdated lingo and writing style, not to mention their dead giveaway profile pictures. They leave Youtube comments with the exact same pathetic, obsessed energy they use when talking to female streamers or something.

The main problem I have with this fandom is how they make their presence known under virtually every video or clips of other girl groups. You could watch a completely non-related video about some other girl group, and these losers would type shit about them while comparing them to RESCENE. They actively demean and belittle every other group out there, even those from major labels, claiming everyone else is doing things wrong and needs to follow RESCENE's footsteps. They constantly boast about how successful they are and how RESCENE makes "real music," which I completely disagree with because people are overrating the hell out of their discography to high heaven. Don't ever tell me a derivative remake of a 2000s track in Pretty Girl inherently deserves the top of the charts. That song wouldn't even be charting if it weren't for the insane momentum they built from their variety content.

I'm far from the only one feeling this way. RESCENE being a male dominated fandom with a massive influx of older male fans is a well established fact at this point. Calling them out isn't ageism btw. I'm holding those grown adults accountable for failing to act their age. These delusional fans think they're on top of the world just because the group went viral for a few months, and now they act like they're above every single group in the industry talking shit about everyone else. The toxicity they exude and their parasocial creepiness towards the RESCENE girls is repulsive, especially considering these girls are young enough to easily be their daughters. Just because RESCENE comes from a small label, Woni uses a strong regional dialect, and the group acts more relatable, these guys honestly think they have a shot or something. The sheer number of them living in this exact delusion is beyond cringe.

I've been following K-pop for a long time, but this has got to be the fastest growing, most toxic and insufferable group of fans I've seen in recent years. It bothers the hell out of me to watch grown adults display this level of entitlement, delusion, and garbage behavior.

When did so many groups start singing live on music shows?

I watched Music Bank in full for the first time in a long time (mainly for Billlie), and I was pleasantly surprised by how many groups were actually singing live. Of course, the backtrack volume varied depending on the group, but it still felt like a positive direction overall.

Among the boy groups, YOUNITE impressed me the most. I think their song was one of the hardest to sing out of all the boy group performances, yet their live vocals were among the loudest. BOYNEXTDOOR and CORTIS were also rapping live but with autotune layered onto their mics.

TWS also sang live, though the backtrack was on the louder side, and they’d occasionally skip some of the more demanding parts. Jihoon really stood out to me though. He just moves differently. I didn't like the song too much when I heard it the first time, but their choreography made it more enjoyable for me.

There was also a group called FLARE U that I’d never heard of before, but they were lipsyncing. Xnghan (Seunghan) also lipsynced from start to finish.

The girl group stages were all really fun to watch. It was my first time watching H//PE Princess, and the song was actually catchy. I vibed with it. I don’t know any of their names yet, but their rap verses were loud and clear, even though the backtrack was pretty loud during the sung sections.

Illit also clearly performed live. Even with the backtrack, you could hear their voices well in the verses. It was also kind of hilarious that I couldn’t hear a single male fan during the fanchants. UNCHILD had backtrack too, but you could still hear their voices overlapping with it.

Billlie was awesome. They looked super charismatic, and you could tell just from their eyes that they had something to prove. The backtrack was kind of loud, but you could still hear their voices. I just wish they had performed WORK too.

NMIXX was just NMIXX. They performed both their prerelease and TT, and their voices were the loudest out of everyone. I especially appreciated that they didn’t skip the adlibs.

I think out of all the girl groups, aespa was the only group that lipsynced on Music Bank. It sounded like they were using a live AR version of the song. Kind of makes you wonder why, especially since WDA is already a pretty rap-heavy track.

I don’t know if it’s specifically a Music Bank thing, but if more groups are actually performing live and their mics are turned up enough for people to hear them, these music shows become way more fun to watch.
