Why is it controversial to expect singers (lesserafim ect) to sing live?

I’ve seen people call any criticism of LE SSERAFIM “hate,” but not everything is hate just because the group went through a hate train. During that period, there was both genuine criticism and actual hate, and it’s important to tell the difference.

For example, I’ve seen videos from professionals pointing out that LE SSERAFIM rely heavily on live backtracks, to the point where they’re barely singing at times. That’s not hate, it’s a legitimate performance critique. Professionals aren’t going to praise excessive backtrack use or lip-syncing.
At Summer Sonic, even fan-recorded clips, not just the controversial livestream, led people to question how much they were actually singing live. Whether you agree or not, that’s a discussion worth having. If fans constantly praise idols regardless of whether they’re singing live, companies have less incentive to prioritize strong live vocals. And it’s kinda sad to make people pay to see you performing and you’re lying about being live…

At the end of the day, singers are expected to sing. I like LE SSERAFIM’s music, but I don’t think every criticism of their performances should automatically be dismissed as hate. Even many of their fans agree that they’re not the strongest performers in K-pop, and acknowledging that isn’t an attack on them.

People don't care that BTS supported Chris brown they just want to hate

I agree with the critique and absolutely think Chris brown and anyone who supports him are trash but part of me wonders if anyone else would be canceled as hard. So many people never face consequences for associating with abusers and I dont think this is a desire for actual accountability, I think it's an excuse people have been waiting for to hate bts (i say this as a non army). I wish people actually cared about why it was wrong and didn't just care about joining the discourse for the sake of the hate train.
EDIT: This applies to all hate trains in kpop. I'm just using this as an example because it's recent and all over the internet. I dont care about BTS or many kpop groups deeply I just think it's harmful to actual constructive discourse about these sorts of issues to just dogpile instead of having meaningful conversations. Also, yes, I posted this in multiple subs because I wanted a wide range of opinions and thought that was the best way to do it.

Txt snark

So i came across this txt snark community and imagine my surprise. There was no post, but I just wanted to talk about how weird it is for someone to create these kinds of communities?

The first line literally says a place where people won't be censored for criticizing txt.

Somewhere along the post it says anything that is the most severe to the members will be added to the main snark thread and probably the first thing newcomers will see.

Idk but to me it just feels like it's promoting criticism towards txt. How badly do y'all want them to be problematic? I'm not saying txt members are saints and have never done anything wrong. We don't know them. We can't claim "Oh txt would never do that" we just can't. Except for what we get to see, we absolutely don't know them.

But so far, whenever it comes to being problematic with txt, we don't see much comparatively.

So why in the world would anyone want to make a whole ass community that's dedicated to criticizing one specific group??

And it's not just txt. There are several communities like these for groups. I've also come across the bts snark one. And my goodness💀

It's absolutely brutal over there.

I'm not saying it's meaningless because i understand the cb thing going on and how hurt some people got with it. There are other posts except those and you should see the comments to get my point. The posts look normal and not bad until you go to the comments.

I just can't understand for the life of me why are we making communities like these. What exactly are you getting out of it? It's JUST kpop, buddy. It's not the end of your life. There's surely more problems to take care in your own life rather than spending your time on being so bothered by a group that you had to make these communties with the sole purpose of criticizing them.

Yes i keep saying criticizing. You might want to argue that the community also mentions criticism towards other stuff such as their fans, lore, company, label, music etc, and that there's no specific line saying it was made to purely hate txt.

But you know, we all know what's gonna happen. People on reddit are brutal with hating when they come to it, so you knew what you were doing when you made it.

At last, I just want to say criticizing a group or just anyone for that matter is not bad. Many of those are supposed to be helping. But then comes the main part, go into the comments of those snark communities, read them and tell me it's just criticizing. There's a difference between respectfully criticizing someone and full on bashing them.

I saw this video somewhere about the Mina case, and ever since that video I've started looking at everything sooo much more differently.

I realized the extent of 'it's just kpop'.

Like seriously, it's not that deep, they're humans, we're humans. Just when are we gonna stop being so obsessed with every single thing another human does to the point it ruins you or someone else.

(Respectively, don't come at me. You can disagree with every single word of mine as long as it stays respectful)

This sub is turning into hybe groups snark sub

The amount of snark posts about hybe groups here in the last few months are insane!!especially about cortis ,BTS and hybe girlgroups. Ive never see any groups from Other companies got this many snark posts in this sub like hybe groups does.

And the redditors here will come up with excuses like 'well this sub is called Harsh opinion so we just expresing our harsh opinion' but there's a clear difference between expresing your opinion vs snarking/hating. And most of the posts and comments here are just straight up snarking.

I heard the mods of this sub are snarkers themself especially active on BTS snark sub so no wonder why they enable so many snark posts in this sub.

I’ve been very impressed with CORTIS and have mad respect for Jay Park and have been very pleasantly surprised by LNGSHOT but…

I think the WAYF BOYS stepping onto the scene just stole both their nachos. CORTIS does a respectable job at selling ‘realness’ and edginess, LNGSHOT is granted some legit edginess from their proximity to Jay Park, but WAYF BOYS are actually embodying it. I dunno where this goes but I’m lookin’ forward to the beef!

Idk if this is harsh but no other sub can take it apparently so here I am…I’m comparing This & That and The Sin: Bliss and why I loved one and disliked the other as fans of both

TW: My Opinion

This & That—Stray Kids: I’m a huge fan of ENHYPEN’s music and only within the past few months began liking Stray Kids’ stuff and understanding the devoted stays out there but oh my god, I did not expect This & That to be so much better than The Sin: Bliss imo. I’ll fully explain my complaints with Enhypen’s newest album later, but for now its biggest problem is this album’s biggest strength. Run It, After You and This & That are all some of my definite favorite releases of 2026, and its middle of the album also has some pretty good songs like I Do and Farming. It’s diverse and has a lot of instant adds to my playlist. I was rly pleasantly surprised.
The Sin: Bliss—ENHYPEN: I was pretty disappointed when hearing this for the first time a few minutes ago. And yes I do like music the more I listen to it so maybe some will really grow on me I just don’t know if it’ll ever grow on me to the level I had expected when waiting for this album’s release. I just feel pretty underwhelmed by this. Don’t get me wrong it has a lot of decent songs like Bloody Paradise, Checkmate, and Highlight, however back to my point from This & That. They are all really decent to me. That’s it decent. Solid songs but they will probably not come near my top 50 kpop releases of 2026 list. Bloody Paradise is the only one that’s close but honestly they were right for hyping up the chorus because the low parts of the song were not really it for me. To me they didn’t have any Run It or After You level songs, so this just led it being mid to me, when I was expecting like practically god level music because of how much I love their music.

What do you guys think about both of them in comparison if you are a simple music listener or both a Stay and Engene too? :)

honestly i don't understand the favouritism and toxic culture in kpop.

ik i'm gonna get heavily downvoted for this, but let's start with the two biggest kpop groups, bts and blackpink. i really don't get the hype. blackpink's initial popularity makes sense because back then, the girl crush concept wasn't overused and most groups were doing cute or refreshing concepts instead. bts, on the other hand, had a rough start, but musically they were making songs pretty similar to every other boy group at the time, nothing that really made them stand out from the crowd.

what bothers me most is how their problematic behavior gets brushed under the rug. from cultural appropriation and racism to fat shaming and mocking other cultures, these issues keep happening. racism in kpop isn't new, but when massive groups like bts or blackpink do something problematic, they always get a free pass. meanwhile, if a smaller group like kiss of life does the exact same thing, they get instantly canceled. if you defend an idol's toxic behavior, you're either just as guilty or too blinded by their looks to accept reality.

the whole concept of idolizing human beings is bizarre to me. the mindset of "we're idols, we don't eat, we don't date, we're perfect" is complete rubbish. the toxic relationship between fans and the industry only makes it worse. if an idol gains weight, people body shame them, if they date, fans turn on them and sasaengs (stalkers) take it to an even scarier level.

on top of that, entertainment agencies keep debuting actual minors, making them sing sexualized lyrics and using them as eye candy for older audiences, which is genuinely disgusting. the industry is also so trend driven that it lacks originality, as soon as one song goes viral, a hundred other groups push out the exact same sound for tiktok clips.

ultimately, kpop and kdrama culture is warping young people's minds by making them feel like they have to be overly skinny and pretty just to land a "korean oppa." the fandoms are insanely aggressive, cyberbullying is rampant, and people care more about artificially inflated streaming numbers and visual appeals than actual music. at this point, kpop is way less about the music and way more about superficial hype.

I'm highkey so jealous of rich kpop stans 😭😭

I particularly mean the kpop stans that go to EVERY stop of the tour, buy all the tour/weverse merch, have fancalls every single week, etc. Like how are we affording this?? What jobs do yall have?? Is your life fully devoted to kpop??

At the same time though, good for them they're living their dream 😢🫩

Please stop criticizing idols for not writing their own songs if you are going to refuse to call them artists even if they do.

Throughout their career, the members of Blackpink have been labeled as idols/entertainers for not writing their own music. Since leaving YG, the members had begun to dive more into songwriting and producing in their albums that was released in between 2024-2026. As of 2026, Jisoo has seven writing credits, Jennie has twelve, Rose has thirteen, and Lisa has twelve with all four women being first in their list of songwriting credits. Not only that, 3/4 members had also a few producer/executive producers in their credits showcasing how different they are in the production of their songs. However, non-fans still refuse to call the members artists despite preaching about how songwriting and producing are real important elements in a artist inside the music industry. If you are going to criticize an artist for not writing their own songs then refuse to call them artists when they do, then stop criticizing them.

Its not that deep

Okay, I really need someone to explain to me why people are acting like San committed a fucking crime because he danced for a few seconds at a football game.

For anyone who somehow missed this whole thing: San from ATEEZ was invited to the game between Manchester City and Atlético Madrid, where he did the ceremonial kick-off. At one point, his song was played and, you know, because he’s a fucking K-pop idol whose entire job is performing and dancing, he did the choreography for like 10 seconds. And somehow, people have turned this into a whole fucking scandal.

You can think the dance was cringe. You can think it was embarrassing. You can think it looked out of place. I genuinely do not care. You’re allowed to dislike it. What I don’t understand is why people are going out of their way to search up this man’s Instagram, find his account, go through his comments, and spam him with vomiting emojis, insults, homophobic comments, and whatever else they can come up with.

And the whole “he shouldn’t have danced, it was so out of place” argument is sending me because HE WAS INVITED. What exactly did you want him to do? Stand there like a fucking NPC while his own song played in a stadium? If anything, that would have been more awkward.

You can dislike the dance without turning into a fucking cyberbully. It’s really not that difficult and its crazy how nobodys talking about the actual game.

which idols do you think are "faking a persona"?

a topic that's always been popular is that idols are sometimes given personalities or character tropes by their companies to fulfill an image or create interesting group dynamics. it might not be an entirely different personality, but they might be told to act more "mysterious" or "goofy" to fit that image

for example, i know fans noticed a difference in how jaehyun from NCT acted before and after his huge puberty glowup. when he debuted as a teen he used to be pretty playful and talkative. but once he started looking like a greek god, he suddenly became more nonchalant and quieter, more than puberty alone could explain.

do you have your own theories?

Stray kids Hyunjin being a bully

Was thinking about it.. found out a friend of a friend got severaly bullied and the mental trauma she has left from it a while ago, I just can't imagine stanning an idol who was a heavy bully with that much proof and an absolutely disgusting last fm? It really is wild to see and shows kpop stans will stan anything.

Edit: don't bother saying it 'isnt true' or 'show proof.' There is enough proof out there if you search it up. He was put on hiatus for a reason stays need to be for real 😂

BABYMONSTER THOUGHTS AND CONTROVERSIAL OPINION

  • They may be more talented than their music currently shows. Their vocal/rap ability is strong, but some songs don't fully showcase it.
  • Ahyeon gets a lot of attention, sometimes to the point where other members can feel overshadowed.
  • The YG sound can feel repetitive. The heavy hip-hop influence is part of their identity, but it can also make their music feel predictable.
  • Their debut rollout was messy. The long pre-debut period and changes around the lineup created a lot of confusion and high expectations.
  • They are sometimes compared too heavily to BLACKPINK. Because they're under YG, people naturally compare them, but constantly doing so can prevent BABYMONSTER from developing their own identity.
  • Their biggest strength might also be their biggest problem: they have too many standout members. With strong vocalists, rappers, and performers, line distribution and screen time can become controversial among fans.

BTS doesn't deserve to be the representation of kpop

I'm a woman first and I'm absolutely disgusted and disappointed and there are some fans defending them. They don't deserve to represent kpop, they've been in scandal after scandal I have overlooked it from racism, DUI, mysogny and many more

I'm embarrassed that I actually ever supported them.

favorite kpop idol hosted variety shows?

i love seungkwan's bibiddi bobbidi boo and soobin's faves' fave the most tbh (i am biased asf don't come at me)

youngji's nothing much prepared/my alcohol diary is obviously a classic and i like her humor a lot.

sana's fridge interview are fun but i can very rarely finish the episode when i start it. i left even woozi and hoshi's interview in the middle as a huge carat🙂‍↕️ must be my bad attention span vs. the longer length of the videos.

i watched a few clips of lily from nmixx on her show and honestly, her konglish itself is the funniest aspect.

minju's pink cabinet was good too! i originally watched it from boynextdoor's episode with jaehyun and leehan (iykyk)

OH! and also zerobaseone's seok matthew's youtube channel and ateez's recent woosan channel!

Why certain fans defend celebrities even if they kill / rape / assault someone ?

I think we need to look into the psychology behind this . There might be people who might benefit from this post . That's why i wanted to post this because the recent BTS / Chris Brown controversy clearly showed a division between Army . Certain fans stood with their morals even though they love BTS madly . Certain fans are defending BTS . Certain go to the extent to even report an organisation which donate to DV victims.

There are 3 type of fans who are defending BTS right now.

Category 1 - These people dont have morals. It is as simple as that.

Category 2 - These people have morals. But they lack self love severely. So only thing they do is in life to feel loved is being obsessed with celebrities and form a parasocial relationship with them . In the process, they build their own reality of who these celebrities are which actually is completely different from these celebrities' real personality. So these fans think that their version of these celebrities are incapable of doing anything wrong. So whatever these celebrities do , they come up with different excuses to protect their imagination that these celebrities are doing nothing wrong , so they can continue to stan them without their moral compass judging them. In their own make believe reality , they have morals , their idols are simply not doing anything wrong.

  1. Some people have no Empathy. When they have no empathy , they cannot understand what these domestic violence / rape victims are gping through

It is as simple as that.

If the fans who falls under the 2nd category start to love themselves and connecting with real life freinds , getting exposed to real life and getting educated on different social issues /feminism /humanity /self growth and self love , they actually can get better and recover from this fucked up mindset.

But first of all , they need to accept the reality that the reason why they are this parasocial is because they do not love themselves. They seek that missing love within someone who is not actually available to them. Secondly , they themsekves should get the need to get out of this parasocial situation. Third , they need to take neccesary steps to get out of it , such as , going therapy , consuming self growth self love content. Trying to bomd with real life people and start having real life relationships. Or focus on own goals. If they do all these , these people can change.

Theres no hope for category 3 at all. They simply cant understand what is wrong.

Maybe there is a hope for category 1. If morals can be taught later in life or if something happens to them which leads towards them developing morals themselves . Then maybe they will change.

Rant timee 👹 (Sorry if it seems low-effort but it took so long to write)

When a company puts a K-pop idol who is a minor in an outfit that is inappropriate for their age, people are way too quick to respond with, “I’m their age, and I wear that.” But by saying that, you’re ignoring the bigger issue and indirectly excusing the sexualization of minors.

The difference is choice. You choose what you wear. These idols often don’t have that same freedom. They have stylists, contracts, and power imbalances that can make it difficult to say no without facing consequences.

On top of that, these minors aren’t just wearing these outfits casually. They’re performing on stage in front of massive audiences, sasaengs, and grown adults with bad intentions—people who already objectify idols. Context matters. Being the same age as an idol doesn’t automatically make the situation okay.

An individual’s personal choice is not the same as a company deliberately marketing a minor’s image for profit and entertainment. Companies know exactly how idols are perceived, yet they still push boundaries because controversy sells.

Anyways, Sprinxie out! :>
