Anyone ever take a sabbatical?

Hello all,

I am an Inside Wire JW for Local 46. I've been working for the last 7 years, really only getting about a week of vacation once per year and the occasional 3-day (non-holiday) weekend. I am a fairly solid and dependable worker. I love my work, but it consumes so much of my energy.

I'm an artist and a musician in the little bit of free time that I have. I've been placed on stand by twice for a few weeks at a time in the past when the company is waiting for jobs to get going, and I used that time to marathon art and music projects, whether it's comics, animation, or working on an album. It got me to thinking:

What if I could schedule a kind of sabbatical for 6 months or so? Has anyone done extended unpaid leave and been able to come back to work? How did you go about asking for it?

Shiba Inu steals the show!

Procreate Dreams helped me out so much when I was doing the animated portion of this video! The new ways it utilized the flip book feature helped sooooo much! I’ve used Toon Boom and Flash in the past, but Dreams is by far the best to satisfy folks who are into traditional animation (: I hope y’all enjoy (I even storyboarded this in Dreams so our camera man could follow story beats as the song progressed)

Grease trap spill in Pioneer Square

Hey y’all, just a heads up if it hasn’t been cleaned up yet: on Jackson near the Occidental area, someone early Sunday morning decided to dump the contents of a restaurant grease trap all over the road (teehee). Anyway, I drove over it, and my wheel well was covered in it. Smelled like puke and even after a few rinses, yellow jackets are still swarming my car.

Hope they got it cleaned up -_-

Space for musicians to work

Hello~ I’m a Seattle resident in a small-ish 1-bedroom apartment. I am kind of limited on space, but have equipment for music recording. It feels pretty claustrophobic when I bring anything out to work on things. I was wondering if there are spaces to rent on a daily or hourly rate that are geared toward artists/musicians? It would just need to be a place where I can focus and have space to work with gear. It’s not necessary, but it would also be nice if there was communal space in those areas to meet other folks. Thanks in advance!
