Rear Camera on 2018 Toyota Yaris not working with aftermarket CarPlay
Hey everyone,
I’m installing an aftermarket CarPlay head unit in my 2018 Toyota Yaris, while trying to retain the OEM reverse camera.
Here’s the situation:
• The original Toyota camera is still installed and worked before the swap.
• My new head unit has a CVBS camera input (RCA/tulp)
I connected the camera input to the CVBS port on the supplied harness
• I also have a CANBUS box connected
Problem:
The head unit does NOT switch to reverse camera mode when I put the car in reverse.
Important details:
I do NOT get a “No Signal” screen, the unit simply never changes to camera mode
So I believe this is a reverse trigger issue, not a video signal issue
The confusing part:
I cannot find any wire labeled “BACK” on the harness.
From the main connector/harness coming from the head unit, I only have 3 loose wires:
•one for power supply
•one going to the CANBUS box
•one going to K-STE
But I don’t have a matching connector for the K-STE wire.
So now I’m wondering:
•Should the CANBUS normally send the reverse trigger automatically?
•Does the OEM Toyota camera require a special adapter to RCA/CVBS?
•Has anyone done this specifically on a 2018 Yaris?
Any help would be appreciated because Its the only thing that doesn’t work.
Thanks!
