Big Update for Car Enthusiasts: Real-Time OBD2 Analytics Like Engine Load Now on CarPlay

Hey everyone,
A lot of users from my previous CarPlay post requested OBD2 support, so after a lot of work, the feature is finally live in Speedometer: Driving Tracker.

You can now see and analyze real-time OBD2 vehicle data directly from CarPlay, iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch (via live activity).

One thing I personally found really interesting while testing was seeing how different driving styles affect engine behavior throughout an entire trip, not just live gauges while driving.

For example, things like:
• Engine Load
• RPM
• Throttle Position
• Coolant & Oil Temperature
• Fuel Usage
• Mass Air Flow
• Intake/Ambient Air Temperature
• And more

I added a sample trip summary screenshot below showing how the app now visualizes engine performance for a drive.

It even works with automatic trip recording through Shortcuts automations (when OBD2 device is connected), so trips can start recording automatically without manually opening the app.

One important note: every car exposes different OBD2 sensors, so some vehicles may not provide all data points shown in the screenshot.

The goal wasn’t just to make another OBD2 gauge app, but to make driving history and car data feel more visual, insightful, and actually enjoyable to revisit later.

Other existing features in the app:
• CarPlay trip tracking
• 3D route playback
• Speed-colored trip replay
• Video recording with speed + map overlays
• Fuel, maintenance, and expense tracking
• Vehicle-based analytics & comparisons
• iCloud sync across Apple devices
• Privacy-first experience (no ads/tracking/signups)

Now it’s becoming one of the most comprehensive driving tracker apps available on any platform, whether iOS or Android! (iOS version is live, Android version is in progress)

Would genuinely love feedback from fellow car enthusiasts on what data, analytics, or visualizations you’d like to see next.

Apple CarPlay

I don’t know if this is a car issue or a phone issue, but my iPhone16 won’t connect when plugged into my 2019 Trek. It says it’s charging but CarPlay doesn’t start.
It works fine with my wife’s iPhone!
I’ve rebooted the entertainment system in the car and restarted my phone. Anyone ever had an issue like this?

Low call volume

I have had ongoing issues with low call volume despite maxing call volume, turning off sound check, and checking both stinger settings as well as carplay settings. Anyone have any other ideas I can try? I have an amplified system and the music is ear shattering even 70% turned up but on the interstate I have to disconnect car play and hold the phone up to my ear. It is a jeep Wrangler, so the wind noise doesn't help - but still.

Magic Box Lite

I recently “upgraded” my wireless CarPlay adapter from some generic one off of Amazon to the magic box lite and am not a fan so far… I was curious if anyone has these issues and/or solutions?

  1. The entire display/widgets are so small I’m constantly pressing the wrong button.

  2. The voice navigation can only be set to mix or switch? On my old adapter I had the voice set to one volume and me being able to hear that voice would be based on the volume of my music/podcast. Honestly mix is fine I guess but annoying when I do need to listen to directions but also am listening to a podcast.

  3. My Maps button near the screen and my Skip buttons on my steering wheels are entirely useless now??

I drive a 2019 Toyota Camry and I have checked the settings while on CarPlay, the settings while connecting to CarPlay, the settings on the Home page or Multi-Play? And I’ve tried to check through my phone settings. Am I missing something, or is this just something I’m going to have to deal with?

Side note: it took me an embarrassing amount of time to actually figure out how to even fully set it up. But I do really enjoy the streaming features.

Hyundai i20 2017 Car Play

I am looking for a car radio with Apple CarPlay. Apple CarPlay needs to run smoothly—without freezing or crashing. Most likely, I will only be using Google Maps or Spotify; I will rarely, if ever, use the split-screen feature. Ideally, the price should be under €200, and it should come with an adapter for steering wheel controls, an antenna, and all the other accessories needed to ensure full functionality just like before. I will also need a mounting fascia for the radio, as it cannot be installed otherwise.

CarPlay issues driving me bonkers

I'm facing three issues with CarPlay in my 2018 Nissan Murano that are driving me nuts and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced them or has a fix?

  1. Siri always prepends the first name of the contact to every outgoing message. For example, if I send a message to my wife saying "I'll be home in 10 minutes", Siri sends it as "Wife, I'll be home in 10 minutes" (she is saved as Wife in my contacts, but it does the same thing for other names).

  2. Siri thinks every incoming message is a group message, even if it's just a conversation between me and one person. Another example...my wife mind sends me a text. Siri will read it and ask me "Do you want to respond to the group?" Since when was a conversation between two people a group message?

  3. In relation to problem 2, if Siri asks me if I "want to respond to the group" and I don't provide an answer in about 2 seconds, it will say "playing Group by <I forgot the artist's name> in Apple Music" and it will start playing a song called Group in Apple Music.

Someone please tell me there is a fix for all of this.

Worth paying £120 more for a wireless head unit?

I have a 2012 JPM Toyota Yaris and am finally ready to get rid of the old Japanese components - one of them is the navigation head unit.
I expect this car can last another 3 years with the upgrade.
The quote for a new wired unit is £120 cheaper than a wireless one. I was thinking to go with a wired one with a wireless adapter so I did some research. It seems like most dongles offer a meh experience.
Since I’m changing a new head unit anyway, is it worth to pay £70 extra for a wireless unit to save some frustration from a £50 adopter down the line?
Going for a wireless unit would also tip the total over £1000 hence my hesitation.

hieha carplay

i’ve had my carplay for a little over a year and the audio has gone quickly downhill recently. i talked to support on their tiktok shop and email, didn’t really help. they said to update, which the qr code doesn’t take me to because it’s invalid. there’s a buzzing that’s louder irl, and it’s gotten worse in the week or so since recording this video.

CarPlay USB port issue

Has anyone having issues with the use plug in port? My CarPlay usb port disconnects while driving sometimes. I have ensured the wire is brand new and have used a wireless adapter. Sometimes on the highway or local roads the whole infotainment system and screen turn off.

Not sure what the cause may be. And wanted to see if anyone else has encountered this. And how they fixed it.

Hello everyone,
Big update for Speedometer: Driving Tracker - the CarPlay app is now live!

Getting approved for CarPlay in the driving task category is tough and one of the hardest CarPlay categories to get through Apple’s review process, so this honestly means a lot.

You can now track drives directly from your car’s screen while also getting insights that many built-in dashboards simply don’t provide.

Another thing I’ve been heavily focusing on lately is making driving memories feel more visual and shareable instead of just raw numbers.

Some newer features include:

• Stunning trip sharing layouts with customizable stats
• Beautiful 3D route playback
• Full-screen route replay with speed-colored paths
• Video recording with live speed + map overlays
• Fuel tracking, maintenance logs, expenses, and reminders
• Vehicle-based trip analytics and comparisons
• iCloud sync for trips, fuel logs, maintenance records, and more
• Privacy-first experience with no ads or tracking

The goal is to make it feel more like a complete driving companion rather than just another GPS speedometer.

Would genuinely love to hear your feedback or ideas!

Cannot hear Calls after updating to iOS 26

Hello Everyone,

I recently updated my phone to iOS 26 and since then anytime I call anyone or if anyone calls me, I am unable to hear them on calls and I have put my phone on speaker to talk while connected to CarPlay. I tried updating my phone to latest iOS and there isn’t any software update on my cars infotainment system. Does anyone have this issue as well? I would like to know how I can fix this.

Thank you

Road Top Headunit - Phone volume at a call too low

I replaced the NTG 4.7 display in my S212 with a Road Top new display unit. When I'm using CarPlay and make a call the volume of the voices are similar lower compared to music and Siri itself or other audio output.

How can I make the voide more louder so I don't have to turn up the system volume at all (and turn the volume down again so my ears don't explode!). I tried several settings and adjusted "Telefon" to the max here Road Top settings ... is there a hint? Using the volume buttons on steering whele or NTG itself doesn't change anything ...

How the hell is it working!! Wireless Connection

Have a BMW G30, it didn’t have CarPlay so I sourced all the equipment and an online seller who provided the access in order to flash my idrive to add the functionality.

Seller asked for my VIN so he could confirm it would work then got back to me saying it’ll work although the VIN didn’t show CarPlay preparation or similar so I’d need to install the WiFi antenna.

I started ‘attempting’ to dismantle the dash although I didn’t have the removal tools handy and I got stuck with a panel that just wouldn’t budge, I decide to try again today, however, I decided to flash the update anyway, less to do tomorrow.

Once done, the CarPlay option was available, out of curiosity I clicked it, set my phone up and… it worked 🧐. And I don’t understand why it’s working because, with no WiFi it shouldn’t??

Anyone have any clue how this could be working? I read it’s absolutely impossible without WiFi?? Just really curious!

Best IPTV Service Provider in 2026? TVAVO Is the One I Finally Stopped Complaining About

I was genuinely close to giving up on IPTV entirely. After going through provider after provider and dealing with the same disappointments on repeat, I had started to wonder if a truly reliable service even existed. TVAVO answered that question and I have been using it daily for several months without a single reason to go back to searching.

The Problem With Most IPTV Services

Every provider I tried before TVAVO .COM followed the same arc. A decent first impression, a promising first week, then a slow decline into unreliability. Streams that worked fine on a Tuesday would buffer endlessly on a Saturday during a big match. Channels would quietly disappear from the lineup. Support tickets would go unanswered for days. I went through this cycle more times than I care to count before accepting that the problem was not IPTV as a concept but the specific providers I was choosing.

Why TVAVO Feels Different From Day One

The first thing that stood out was how fast everything loaded. No waiting, no spinning buffer icon, channels just opened immediately. I assumed this would change under pressure so I waited for a high traffic sports weekend to run a real test. It did not change. Streams held clean throughout a full Premier League Saturday and an NFL evening without a single interruption. That had never happened with any service I used before and it set the tone for everything that followed.

What the Content Library Actually Covers

TVAVO covers more ground in a single subscription than any other provider I tested. USA channels including all major networks and premium cable. UK channels including BBC, ITV, Sky Sports, and BT Sport. Canadian and European packages. A sports tier spanning NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, Premier League, Champions League, La Liga, UFC, F1, and boxing. A VOD library with thousands of titles that gets updated regularly with new movies and series rather than sitting unchanged for months. I had been paying for two separate services before to get this breadth of coverage. TVAVO replaced both of them at a lower combined cost.

Every Device I Tested It On

Firestick 4K Max, Nvidia Shield, Samsung Smart TV, LG Smart TV, Android TV box, iPhone, Android phone, and a Windows laptop. Every single device connected without issues. TVAVO provides Xtream Codes credentials after signup and those work seamlessly with TiviMate on Firestick and Android TV and with IPTV Smarters Pro on mobile. Both apps configured in under five minutes and worked perfectly from the first connection.

Sports Streaming When It Matters Most

Live sports during peak hours is the definitive test for any IPTV service because that is exactly when server load is highest and weaker providers expose their limitations. Over several months I watched NFL playoff games, Premier League title race weekends, Champions League knockout fixtures, UFC pay-per-view events, NBA playoff games, and Formula 1 race weekends on TVAVO. Not one of these produced a buffering interruption on my home connection. Three simultaneous streams running during one busy weekend and all three held without any quality drop.

Customer Support That Actually Responds

I contacted TVAVO support twice during my time using the service. Once with a setup question during the first week and once about EPG configuration a month later. Both times a WhatsApp response arrived within 20 minutes with accurate and specific information. No generic replies, no being told to restart my router and try again. Real answers from someone who clearly understood the product. In a space where support is often the weakest link that kind of responsiveness stands out immediately.

Pricing That Makes Cable Look Ridiculous

Annual plan covering three devices at a monthly cost that is a fraction of any cable or satellite package. Monthly and quarterly options available for anyone who wants to verify performance in their specific region before committing to a full year. Multi-device plans for larger households that need more simultaneous connections.

A Few Honest Notes Before You Sign Up

TVAVO does not have a dedicated native app which means you need a third party player like TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro. Both are excellent and setup is straightforward but it is worth knowing upfront if you are expecting a self-contained app experience. Performance is best on connections of 50 Mbps and above. Below that threshold you may occasionally notice quality dips during peak hours on busy channels.

The Bottom Line

TVAVO is the most reliable IPTV service I have used across years of testing different providers. Stable streams under pressure, comprehensive channel coverage, a VOD library that stays current, support that responds quickly and accurately, and pricing that justifies itself from the first month. If you are still cycling through providers that keep letting you down, is where that cycle ends.
