Scientists thought ravens followed wolves for food. A 2.5-year GPS study told a different story.
A few months ago I posted a different news story about ravens and wolves. This seems to be the counterpoint. Damn corvids are smarter than humans!

This is not a complaint about Paypal Policy. It is a complaint about Paypal's decisions about how it decides to (not) serve us. You want to delete it anyway, go ahead mods.
It spams you with Paypal Package Tracking emails, and if you read your email on a desktop like I do, these emails are completely worthless -- they link to a page that in a browser is just a "scan this QR to get the Paypal app."
It would be USEFUL if you included some detail about the shipment like maybe the CARRIER or TRACKING NUMBER.
Paypal is what i use to PAY. I don't want to use it for tracking. I've set a rule to delete every Paypal tracking email, since they apparently cannot be turned off. In-app, I can turn off the in-app Paypal Package Tracking notification. Nothing lets me turn off the emails.

there is a clear moment in Star Trek IV when Kirk and Spock are walking past the truck that Catherin Hicks is driving. Hicks slowly and deliberately looks down at Spock's ass.
It's reported that Nimoy (who was directing) found this hilarious and deliberately left it in the final cut.
Right now, the only live website is https://www.virtualwall.org. However, I have old emails from 2006 about an alternate website https://thevirtualwall.org, where I had left a remembrance, but which now is a redirect to a weird site https://hryrix.com/, possibly a game site, I can't be sure. archive.org has many archived pages for thevirtualwall.org but not the one of my relative. There are also mentions of thevirtualwall.org in a 1998 NYT article, pages from George Mason University, lots of references. Anyway I was hoping to find discussion of either or both of these sites.
Flaired as "disurbing content" -- medical issues.
My wife has cataracts. She also has a well-documented (at least 4 instances of being unsedated by it, including waking up during ICD implantation surgical procedure) of intolerance of Versed, the favorite drug of anesthesiologists for twilight sedation. For her first cataract surgery on May 4, everyone was made well aware of her Versed intolerance, and they promised that what they had was sufficient. They used Precedex (dexmedetomidine) and a very small dose of fentanyl; this did not work. She felt completely unsedated, wishing to jump out of the chair. The anesthesiologist just said "hold my hand" and "can you tolerate Benadryl?" He added benadryl with no notable effect.
This traumatic failure, on top of the other versed-related traumatic failures in the past, has put her in a fine state of anxiety.
For the second surgery, scheduled for Monday May 18, they promised to use general anesthesia. The surgical center, when questioned, said they use the same drugs -- normally Versed & Fentanyl, for her they could subsitute Precedex. Successful past surgeries for her under general, as well as sucessful past twilight procedures for her, have used Propofol. The surgical center could not tell us whether the anesthesiologist could use Propofol.
The surgeon is on vacation this week and cannot be contacted -- although on Tuesday May 5 he promised to get back to us about Propofol, he never did. The anesthesiologist's group is not in the office today (Thursday).
If we cannot reach them tomorrow, or if they will not agree to use Propofol, we will be cancelling her surgery and seeking a different surgeon to do it in a hospital.
I welcome your thoughts on this situation.
ETA: "and promised" => "and they promised"
> "I have visited some literatures of East and West; I have compiled an encyclopedic compendium of fantastic literature; I have translated Kafka, Melville, and Bloy; I know of no stranger work than that of Henry James."^([3])
Came across this quote today while reading about Henry James. I love Borges way more than James but I suspect that I'll be reading a bunch of James in the near future.
This was my favorite cactus. Purchased off Palmstreet in July or August 2025. We ordered the glass tentacles and squid head specifically for it. repotted once to bury more of the dragonfruit graft host. then this week it started showing mushiness in the ball itself, and when we inspected the tray underneath it was crammed full of ants.
I didn't think it was dead, thought it was worth giving some attention, but when my wife demonstrated the mushiness I gave in.
EDIT: the photos are of the plant well before today.
We have a small one of the same species as well. maybe will have more luck.
Looked under every single other cactus on that shelf and other shelves of the rack. only one other ant collection, much smaller, under a Pink Panther. She was overdue for repotting so we did that. bought some Neem spray too and treated her.
