WarhammerSpire: A Rogue-Lite Mod for TWW3

>I posted an introduction for this mod over on r/totalwarhammer last week, and got a ton of great feedback and questions from the community. I've done my best to address as much of it as I could this past week, so I'm bringing the mod here to share with you all now

After playing Total War: Warhammer III for a long time, I started to feel a bit tired of the usual campaign loop where every run can take dozens of hours of empire management and map-painting.

There are also many mid-tier or transitional units in the vanilla campaign that feel awkward to use. Some of them have interesting designs, but because of recruitment buildings, unit tiers, and better alternatives, they often end up in that “too good to ignore, too inefficient to actually use” spot.

When Cathay’s caravan system first came out, I remember many people saying that CA could probably build a whole rogue-lite mode around that idea. Years have passed, and even indie games have started exploring Total War-style combat mixed with roguelike deckbuilding or climbing progression — but Total War: Warhammer still does not really have that kind of mode.

So I made a new mod myself.

It adds a rogue-lite gameplay loop to the campaign. You can trigger an independent army event chain through a new button in the lower-right corner of the campaign UI.

At the start, the mod generates a random initial army for you. Then you climb through rounds one by one. Each round offers unit and equipment rewards, followed by battles against randomly generated enemy armies.

The balance is based on the unit costs from multiplayer battles, with a simple scaling curve added on top. It probably will not perfectly satisfy both veteran players and newer players, so I also added MCT options for difficulty adjustment.

The mod is still pretty rough around the edges, but I'm really curious to see how the community vibes with this kind of gameplay. If people enjoy it, who knows—maybe it could even show CA that there's real interest in a rogue-lite campaign mode for TWW3.

Feel free to give it a try if you are interested!

A New Rogue-like Totalwar Mod: WarhammerSpire

Feel free to give it a try if you are interested. I do not visit rddt very often, so if you have feedback or suggestions, leaving a comment on the Workshop page would be the best way to reach me.
