My first ultimate endgame crisis : Should I hole up in the donut or defend my other territories

This is my first ultimate endgame crisis. Do you suggest i hole up in ulthuan or try and defend my external territories. I have roughly 9 turns left before the hordes awaken.

Hey CA can we get this guy as a LH for thorgrim?

"Kragg is the oldest and by far the most powerful living runelord - a gnarled old dwarf, strong and enduring as a weather-beaten oak. Despite being more than 1,000 years old, his expression is one of eternal disapproval, his beetling brow and granite-like face a withering condemnation of younger, more frivolous Dwarfs. This is quite normal for a Dwarf of his age, who has seen many wonders and watched the inevitable decline of craftsmanship and respect."

One of the few missing pieces left for the dwarfs along with josef bugman and grim burloksson, i think he deserves a spot alongside his lord thorgrim!

More Shameless Wood Elf Praising

It's been 24 hours since I glazed praised the Wood Elves on this platform, and I still have pics to post, so I will do so again.

Unfortunately Reddit only allows 20 pics per post, so I can post at least once more sometime in the future.

If anyone has any WE art/memes/whatever to share, that would be welcome.

There is shamefully little art of them...

Btw, if anyone wants to do a good thing: please thumb up this bug report about the Twilight Spear:

Teutogen Guard discussion

Recently there was much discussion regarding the combat stats of Teutogen so Id like to put my two cents in.

First of all, Teutogen Guard are recruited from the Tier 3 landmark building in Middenheim, as shown below. For anyone other than Todbringer, however, you have to wait until Tier 4 of the Shrine of Ulric building chain before you can even access them.

Middenheim landmark

Regular recruting tree

At first glance, their combat stats certainly look impressive. The problem is that once you look more closely at their actual damage profile, they are much less impressive than the stat card suggests.

Teutogen Guard have only 28 armor-piercing weapon damage, which is the lowest among elite hammer infantry. For reference, Dwarf Hammerers have 41 AP damage, Marauder Champions with great weapons have 35, and even Empire Greatswords have 25. That difference becomes even more significant once you remember that Greatswords also receive an anti-infantry bonus.

As a result, Teutogen Guard actually hit considerably less hard against heavily armored infantry than you might expect. In fact, against infantry, Greatswords will hit signicantly harder with 46 melee attack, 35 armor piercing weapon damage and 14 base damage.

Greatswords

Hammers

Marauder Champions

Teutogen Guard

Their second major weakness is mass. Teutogen Guard have only 120 mass, which is exceptionally low for elite infantry. By comparison, Hammerers have 170, Chosen have 160, and both Swordmasters and Tzar Guard have 150.

This is particularly important because Charge Defence Against All does not suddenly make them immune to the physical impact of large units. With only 120 mass, Teutogen Guard can still be knocked around and displaced heavily by cavalry, monsters, and other large units. Charge defence against all look impressive on paper, but comination of low mass and no charge reflection limits what it can do in actual combat.

I can't make myself like High Elves

I love their unit roster, and whilst it's not the best in the game, I find it to be pretty varied and relatively strong still. I want to like them, I really do. But my issue though is that every time I play them, I just think of them as inferior to some other faction.

In this case every time I play aggro on them, I just perceive them as worse Dark Elves. And whenever I play them diplomatically, I just perceive them as worse Dwarves. Mayhaps my brain had been stained too much by powertripping, but I always think in the mindset of "what does this race provide from x", and in High Elves it's nothing. I will say that for a time I did enjoy Teclis. I don't think his archmages are that special, since there are races with better solo spellcasters, but I thought it was still unique enough. Especially since by turn ~10 he can recruit level 22 ones, which is a breakpoint for a dragon mount, so they can now properly solo armies. But then I remembered I could just recruit saved characters provided I have the money, so pretty much most midgame Dark Elves (especially Lokhir who is what I mostly play), could pull off a Teclis thing whilst also being insanely economically strong themselves.

To compensate I've been trying to get into Eltharion's campaign, since his exploit should allow to turn him into a Dwarf deep like economy, but damn is it annoying to set up. And the start locations are just horrid, everything is so far apart from each other, you spend more of early game traveling than actually conquering. Which translates into immesurable tempo loss. I'll still try to go through with his campaign, but holy is it a sour taste in my mouth.

I've played Aislinn before, and I don't think he really impressed me. Then again that was when I was still a newbie at the game, so perhaps the times changed. But I still remember hating his resource mechanic, can never upgrade your dragonships until late game because otherwise you'll softlock yourself by not earning enough Elven Trade.

Everyone else doesn't really have a stand out mechanic to matter, at least more than those 3.

Bretonnia Update: Petition #9 - L' infanterie

Gosh, there's just so many options. It's hard to choose!

CA, I don't want to harsh the vibe while you are genuinely cooking with the End Times content. But Foot Knights are right there on the tabletop since... (checks the numbers) March 16, 2024.

While we are at it, foot squires could be given halberds. Like the Beastslayers of Bastonne RoR has!

Or, has had.

Since 2017.

***Edit: Knightly virtue for the day: "Since it is so likely that children will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker." C.S. Lewis

The memes will continue until morale improves.

HP Power Creep

Anybody notices how elite infantry just gets more and more hp per model.

Teutogen guard now have almost as much as chosen. More then dwarfs, big uns, temple guards.

Humans shouldn't be that sturdy. They would probably be best as same level like Tsar Guard. I like the unit but it is kinda weird to me, especially coming from faction that should have lower quality melee by default.

How strong were they in lore

My Dawi Brethren: The Iron Warden Tankard is just another Elgi Scheme!*

*For Slayers

THEY HAVE WRONGED US!

Meet humble Boki, a level 24 Dragon Slayer

He Has 4638 health, 20% Ward Save and 5% Physical resistance (and 45% magic resistance and 25% missile resist for the curious). His ward save boosts to 40% when he dips below half health thanks to Iron Warden's Shield and Dragon Slayer's Fang. Then his Physical resistance boosts to 20% for his final quarter of health thanks to Extremely daring deathblow.

Now let's do some nerd shit. Comparing Iron Warden Tankard, which adds 75% to his health pool via Healing vs the Gate Keepers belt that adds 40% ward save for the final 25% health. Note that the tankard tends to keep you above half health, so I applied that health to the above half health stats.

Tankard Health Damage reduction Damage absorbed
First Half Health 5,797.5 25% 7,730
3rd Quarter Health 1,159.5 45% 2,108.182
4th Quarter Health 1,159.5 60% 2,898.75
Total 12,736.93
Gatekeepers Belt
First Half Health 2,319 25% 3092
3rd Quarter Health 1,159.5 45% 2108.182
4th Quarter Health 1,159.5 90% 11,595
Total 16795.18

Not only can Boki theoretically absorb more damage with a gatekeepers belt, nearly 70% of the damage he can absorb occurs in the last quarter of his health when he has +60% damage and +15 Melee attack from Extremely daring deathblow and Dragon Slayer's Axe.

Note: if you have and Armor of destiny, Talisman of Preservation, and tankard that's 48% damage reduction for the first 3 quarters of health, and 63% for the last quarter. Comes out to 16,512.63 damage absorbed. Still slightly less, but will perform more consistently for survival, but you will likely never see those slayer bonuses. So if you can, you want to save these for thanes/Lords.

Now go ahead, poke holes and point out horrific oversights in my methodology.

Forget teutogen guard what the fuck is this, CA?

New empire warhounds vs Norscan warhounds. They could beat base exalted daemonetes with like 3 ranks...

I will build 10 stacks of these if they're like this.

Karl Franz start advice?

Been trying out ol' Karl, but it seems like by the time I've even taken out the secesionists (5 turns or so) half the Elector Counts are either dead or down to 1 settlement, imperial authority is waning, and Kemmler is snowballing out of control. I don't really have the economy to sustain multiple expeditions even though I mostly just spam unshielded spearmen and demolish my military buildings in favour of more econ buildings, so I end up sending aid to the electors and they get killed anyways.

Is that how the early game is supposed to go on medium difficulty? I wanna interact with the elector counts and the imp authority system but it seems like the only winning move is to ignore it, boost Elspeth's fealty so she doesn't declare war on me, let the rest of 'em perish and eat the public order penalty. Is that the strat? The sheer number of chaos/drycha/beastmen/orc/vampire factions that start within the Empire's borders vs the total inability of the counts to put up a fight is really hurting the idea of a besieged realm, more like a realm 90% conquered already...

New Lords-Winners and Losers

With the new lords starting positions being known.

Who's campaigns have become easier and who have become harder?

Outside of the new Lords, are there any campaigns you are itching to do now things have been shaken up a little?

Shameless Wood Elf Praising

As the title says, I feel the urge to glaze praise the, in my opinion, best race.

Dwarfs are in second place, but they just come up a little short.

Enjoy the artwork I found on my PC.

Dwarf Flying Machines??

I'm finally picking up Dwarfs after being introduced to TW3 a year ago. Its my understanding Dwarfs have been one of the most updated factions. Absolutely loving them but struggling to understand the flying machines.

Everyone seems to glaze the gyrocopters, but which ones better, the steam or fire ones? Ive ran about 3 in my armies and dont seem to be getting these outstanding results everyone's told me about. Are they really that good and I'm just trash?

I don't get the point of Mists of Yvresse

I decided to replay High Elves as of recently, and was quite intrigued by Mists of Yvresse, initially I thought it was a corruption mechanic but for the High Elves, similarly to how Morathi is the only one with corruption mechanic out of Dark Elves. And I suppose it's kinda like that, but it only ever covers Ulthuan, not even Yvresse's territories in general like the ones they'll gain in Southlands. Which kinda defeats the purpose, since nobody ever attacks Ulthuan outside of Nkari & Noctilus who spawn there. Maybe Morathi if she occasionally defeats Ostankia. Unironically Ulthuan's biggest advantage as the safest region in the world, hurdles the whole point of the Mists.

Got nemesis crown on kairos. He might be the strongest lord in the game with on.

Kinda a bold claim I know but hear me out. At tier 3 crown you get -2 turns to changing of the ways and with kairos you can get another -3 from his skill line. Sounds alright until you realize that halt army now doesn’t have a cooldown at all and that halt army STACKS. Like if any of the multiplayer people look at this please do let me know, how would you even stop that? I can reveal shroud to see all your territory and then just freeze your entire military in place for as long as I want. It only takes me like 150 grimoires to stack 6 turns of no movement on an army and stacking 10k plus grimoires only takes me like 2 or 3 turns. Like I’m at a point where when I activate ultimate endgame crisis by taking out teclis (he had territory on the donut) for my short and long campaign condition I wonder if they even can provide any challenge at all. There is genuinely nothing stopping me from freezing all their armies and taking them out one by one with teleporting ambushes. Even if the armies were so powerful that I somehow couldn’t win I could just ignore them and destroy all their territory and let them lose to being homeless. How would you even beat that?

I just realized Kislev benefits greatly from a bug that annoys everyone else

The good ol’ sack a port settlement and the garrison that escaped stays bug. Well, what if you keep on sacking and doing nothing after? Every fight counts as a “battle,” which gives support if it’s against chaos or the enemy of the supporters. Works a lot better as Boris or Stanky, so you can have both the ice court and orthodoxy at war with the port owner, and their support gained is even. So keep on sacking a norsca or chaos port and you can trivialize the system.
