WWYD - Engagement ring production issue

Hi y’all - I would love your advice here on my engagement ring purchasing experience. PLEASE STRAP IN BC ITS A LONG ONE.

In January, we went to Derco in SF to find a lab diamond and a setting. We found an emerald cut I liked for at least 500$ less than other retailers and I chose a setting from Frank Darling that was priced at $2140 at the time I wanted them to recreate. They gave us 300$ off of the FD retail price so the setting came out to $1800+tax

We were suppose to receive a CAD rendering 6 weeks after we put in the purchase order……. But around mid April… we got an email with a picture of a ring (NOT the CAD) that looked nothing like we requested. I confirmed with the jeweler all the changes that needed to be made and specified that I just wanted a setting to look exactly like the FD setting.

We event came back into the showroom to confirm all the details again.

\- side stones were too wide and I needed narrower ones
\- the metal was white gold and I wanted yellow gold
\- there were suppose to be faux double claw prongs (they had bulbs)
\- the link I sent was the setting I wanted them to copy but they completely created a different setting that we talked about but I no longer wanted

He told me he would need to source new side diamonds and submit the request for a CAD. We would have to wait an additional 2.5 weeks and another 4 for the creation of the actual ring.

I received the CAD - firstly it was NOT the setting I said I wanted AND the CAD did not show how the prongs would look. He said he would make sure the correct prongs were designed correctly. I gave screenshots and circled things and X’ed things out so he would know exactly what I wanted.

At this point I’m so exasperated keeping all the details and requests in order and I didn’t want to prolong this whole thing anymore so I told him “yes” to the setting but to make sure the prongs were correct. I ASSUMED that from our conversation he also noted down that I wanted yellow gold.

Anyway, when we received the ring…

It’s white gold, the setting was the one I accepted but bc I was just so over waiting for another ring to be made, the faux prongs look nothing like the FD sample and craftsmanship really neglected detail.

At this point we’re been working on this ring for 6 months. I just want to get engaged and I don’t want to waste another 2 months waiting for them to fix their production issue.

I want to wait until we officially get engaged to being the ring back to ask them to fix it. Can I even do that?! What should I do 😭😭😭😭

ALSO, the setting I originally showed them for $2140 is now $1340 on the FD website. Since we’ve been waiting for so long and the setting still isn’t correct, how can I ask for a price readjustment on the setting? (My partner already paid for it when he took it home but I have no shame in asking)

Please help me 😭

Advice on this CAD setting for an emerald cut? 🙏🏽

Hi everyone, I was hoping to get your input if anybody is very familiar with emerald cut and settings that are appropriate for an emerald cut.

We received our CAD render below. This is the second one that’s been made for us. My jeweler hasn’t given us much direction so I’ve been doing a lot of research on my own aka turning to this amazing sub!

I’m a lot of bit worried about this setting, and how much of the band will be seen through the step cut of an emerald cut diamond.

The last two pictures in the carousel show the example setting I wanted. It looks like a setting wraps around the emerald rather than cuts through the middle - I’m not sure if that’s the usual rule of thumb for all emerald cut settings?

Does anyone have pictures or references of their own rings 🥺🥺 would love everyone’s input.

We’ve been working with this jeweler since January and have been going back-and-forth for six months now. It’s the best price for a ring that we’ve found around the area so we don’t want to switch. But it’s definitely been a headache and I feel like I have no direction.

So I’m hoping this sub can you give me some confidence to move forward with the setting or let me know if I need to push back on a different design. 💅🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🥺
