Using an OG F800 to keep our shed completely off grid!!
Hi everyone Fernando here!! I wanted to share how we keep our shed completely off grid using a Ankers Solix OG F3800 and a 100w Anker Solix PS100.
Before we set this up, we used a 100ft extension cable that connected to a normal 120v in our home. This worked great but it only provided a maximum of 1800w to the shed and it also shared that circuit with some of our homeโs appliances. This worked fine for a few years but since we use a lot of tools that use a lot of power, our circuit breaker would occasionally trip due to the high energy demand.
We decided to use one of our first OG F3800โs that we purchased from Outbound Power to provide power to the entire shed. The installation was extremely simple to do and it took us around 30 minutes to set up!! We literally just pulled the F3800 from our garage and placed it inside of the shed near the door. We then climbed up to our roof and we set up the 100w Anker Solix PS 100 by unfolding it and putting some weights on it to prevent the wind from blowing it away. We used the MC4 extension cables that came included with the PS100 solar panel and connected them to the MC4 connectors on the solar panel. Next I used the MC4 to XT60 adapter that was included with our first F3800 and connected one end to the MC4 extension cables and then we connected the XT60 plug directly into our OG F3800.
This set up has worked amazing for us. Since we donโt use our shed on a daily basis, the 100w solar panel has been more than enough to recharge our OG F3800!! When we use the lights and some power tools for a couple of hours, the F3800โs battery percentage usually drops to around 80% SOC. Our 100w solar panel can usually charge the F3800 back up to 100% charge in 1 - 2 days!! The battery percentage has never dropped below 80%!!
If you are considering taking one of your sheds completely off grid, the OG F3800 is definitely one of the easiest ways to accomplish this goal. We now have a maximum output of 6000w. One of the best parts about this solution is that we have both 120v output as well as 240v output and more than enough power to literally run any of our power tools!! This is how we are using #MyFirstSOLIX !!
